JANUARY 19, 2013 |
Howdy! I blinked, and the month is almost over. Like I mention in my Soapbox (below), time is also passing quickly for Congress. They have a lot of work to do, and the next deadline will be here before we know it.
Have a great week!

Gary's Soapbox: Drama Ahead
As the country was falling off of the fiscal cliff back at the turn of the New Year, Congress got together and passed some new laws. I don't remember what the package was called, but I'm sure it was some grandiose title that is supposed to make us think that all is good in the world again. Overall, I was pleased with what they did. Many "permanent" fixes are now in place that give us a firm idea as to what to plan for tax-wise in the future. But while I was pleased, the work done will only impact the tip of the iceberg.
First, the tax system of the United States is messed up. That is one thing that most everyone can agree with. How to un-mess it? Well, that's where the arguments occur. Expect nothing to happen on this front.
The other little thing is that those automatic spending cuts that were a big part of the cliff weren't eliminated, they were moved a few months down the road. That means that Congress again has to compromise (a verb that has been struck from the dictionary of both political parties). And this one is where I think there will be a lot of gnashing teeth. We are thus in for a real treat: a government produced reality show, with our futures as the prize.

Final Thought
Have you noticed:
- Whether working in the kitchen or on the car, after your hands become coated with grease, your nose will begin to itch and you'll have to pee.
- Any tool, nut, bolt, screw, when dropped, will roll to the least accessible place in the universe.
- The probability of being watched is directly proportional to the stupidity of your act.
- If you change lines (or traffic lanes), the one you were in will always move faster than the one you are in now.
- The probability of meeting someone you know increases dramatically when you are with someone you don't want to be seen with or doing something you don't want to be seen doing.
- As soon as you find a product that you really like, they will stop making it or the store will stop selling it. Corollary: Your favorite restaurant is the next one that will close.
- If you don't feel well and make a doctor's appointment, means you will feel better by the time you get there. But don't make an appointment, and you'll stay sick.
Sincerely,
