Lightweb Darkweb

In July 2013, Raffi launched a timely book on social media, Lightweb Darkweb, a must read for parents, teachers and teens. To order or read more about this book visit Lightweb Darkweb on our website.

"Whether you're a parent, teacher, friend or young person yourself, this book is required reading to skillfully navigate the wonderful and dangerous world of social media."
~ Annie Leonard, Author, The Story of Stuff

Here are some pieces about the book in MacLean's and the Vancouver Sun, along with an excerpt published in Huffington Post.

Internet Safety Program
After the October 2012 Amanda Todd teen suicide, the Centre launched an Internet Safety program to help parents, educators and youth to engage social media safely and with discernment. We hosted three Internet Safety events on Salt Spring Island. With Raffi, we also co-founded the Red Hood Project.

We are proud to be a founding partner of this grassroots movement to make social media safe for young users.

Currently we are helping Salt Spring Island Middle School with their own internet safety program for a month-long program of digital citizenship studies. They will be using the valuable and free resources from Common Sense Media, tailored to their needs, in conjunction with an effective public speaker to help launch their program in the new year.
