MUUUCE 2014 and Epic adventure

Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines "epic" as, "extending beyond the usual or ordinary especially in size or scope"-an apt description for this year's annual MUUUCE (Most Unbelievable, Ultimate, Urban Camping Experience) which took place at Crossroads Church in Woodbury, Aug. 7-9. Epic was the theme woven throughout the 3-day retreat of over 600 middle schoolers, jr. highers and their leaders from 42 churches. From the moment they drove up, students knew they were going to experience an out-of-the-ordinary event designed for them, an event that communicated that God loves early adolescents in an epic way from the powerful worship and preaching to the awesome decorations to the hard-working volunteers.

Gabby, an 8th grader, summed up the weekend: "MUUUCE is having a great message with friends you love and you meet new people to have fun with." For Abigail, 6th grade, this was her first MUUUCE: "It's a place where you can be naturally crazy." For veteran 9th grader, Nikki, she observed, "Every year it changes, [the themes], the messages. Yet they all change you in their own way."

40th Annual MA Arena Sale Drop-Off Days coming in August

Minnehaha Academy would like to invite your church community to be part of our Arena Sale, Sept. 12 and 13. Celebrating 40 years, the Arena Sale has become so much more than a school fundraiser: it is a family fun event and a time when the Minnehaha community comes together to put on a market with meaning.

The Arena Sale is a Market with Meaning:

  • Minnehaha families (together with Twin Cities Covenant Churches!) donate and unload unwanted and unused items to a great cause.
  • Portions of the proceeds go to the Minnehaha Academy Opportunity Fund to specifically benefit students and families.
  • People travel from all over the Twin Cities and even Wisconsin annually to shop for high quality, low cost re-purposed items.
  • Churches shop for items they can use in their own ministries such as community clothes closets.
  • Community nonprofit partners take unsold items and distribute them through their programs in local neighborhoods to those in need. Some items, such as shoes, are sent as far away as Africa.

Donation Drop-Off Days
Wednesdays: August 13, 20, 27 and September 3 from 1 - 8 p.m.
Saturdays: August 9, 16 and 23 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Download a PDF that you can use to reproduce and insert into your bulletin or post on your 'opportunity for ministry' announcement boards. You can also visit the Arena Sale webpage

Planning Your Legacy

Galatians 6 says we will reap what we sow, but we don't always reap and sow in the same season. Legacy Planning is based on a similar principal. Our time on earth is limited, but with proper planning, our actions and decisions can have an impact that transcends our time here. Our legacies-the lives we touch; the wisdom, values, and traditions we share with others; the ministries that continue due to our support-can affect the world beyond our lifetime.

Covenant Trust Company (CTC) believes everyone has a legacy. What will yours be? If you're not sure, here are some of our tools that can help you take control of the legacy you leave behind.

Trustee services

CTC can manage trusts as trustee or successor trustee for various types of trusts. Generally, trusts can be used to build wealth and designate family, friends and charities as beneficiaries. Revocable Living Trusts (RLT) in particular are great for Legacy Planning as they allow people to establish for whom the trust will provide, to what extent and for how long. As trustee, CTC can manage assets in an RLT even after your death.

Wills

With a Will, you can ensure your plans for your family and assets are carried out. A Will can determine legal guardianship of children, and name friends and charities along with family as beneficiaries of your estate.

Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA)

A CGA is an irrevocable contract between a donor and a charity. If, for example, you funded a gift annuity with a Northwest Conference ministry or church as a beneficiary, CTC would act as trustee of those funds and make fixed payments to you for the rest of your life. Afterward, the ministry or church would receive the remainder of the fund. CTC is able to facilitate these agreements on behalf of all Covenant ministries.
