News from the Northwest Conference

Berge, NWC sign agreement to plant City of Lakes Covenant

By Mike Brown, Director of Church Planting

On Oct. 1, the Northwest Conference signed a Covenant Agreement with our newest Church Planting pastor, Dave Berge, who has officially begun planting City of Lakes Covenant Church in South Minneapolis!

Berge grew up in South Minneapolis, so he is coming home to begin this new church. Most recently, Berge served a church in California prior to being assessed and recommended to plant with the Evangelical Covenant Church.

Please pray for Dave Berge, his wife Amy, and their children, Kyle and Peter, as they settle into a new home and begin this new ministry. Thanks again to all for your faithful support of the Northwest Conference. As we have highlighted before, every plant is a collaborative effort between the Conference, the denomination and individual partner/parent churches. We have much to celebrate.

VIVE 2013
Oct. 26 at Crosstown Covenant, Minneapolis

VIVE logo What do your students know about FAFSA forms and college essays? Some don't have a clue, and their lack of information will cost them a college degree. For students who are the first in their family to go to college, applying to schools can be overwhelming.

VIVE is a college prep event for under-represented students in grades 7 through 12, as well as their parents and youth pastors, senior pastors and other adults who are invested in students. VIVE's mission is to encourage and prepare these young students to choose a college education. Visit northwestconference.org/children-youth-family/vive to learn more and find us on Facebook at VIVE Twin Cities.

VIVE takes place on Oct. 26, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Crosstown Covenant, Minneapolis, MN. Participants will be inspired by Steve Fitzhugh (former Denver Bronco), interact with the North Park University worship team and learn practical ways to achieve their college dream. Parents will get useful knowledge about helping their child get to college. And youth workers and pastors will learn about how to advocate for their students when it comes to higher education.

The day is free and a continental breakfast, as well as lunch, will be provided.

This one-day youth ministry and children's ministry leadership training event will be Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at Grace Fellowship in Brooklyn Park, MN. It's a great event for both staff and volunteers with seminars targeting the issues we face in ministry.

The morning general session speaker will be Rich Van Pelt. Rich specializes in training youth workers in adolescent crisis intervention and teen suicide prevention and response. The NWC has been on the steering committee for this event since the beginning.
