CF Feb 28 Luncheon
Children & Family Ministry Spring Luncheon

Who: All NWC Children/Family Ministry staff ministers and key volunteers

Date: Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013       Time: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Cost: $5
Location: Crossroads Church, 5900 Woodbury Drive, Woodbury, MN 55129

Our speaker, Scott Peterson, has worked with kids for over 30 years. He's a native Minnesotan who serves as the children's pastor at Redwood Covenant Church in Santa Rosa, CA. Scott says he learned everything he knows about ministry at Lake Beauty Covenant Bible Camp in Long Prairie, MN. He describes his ministry as "looking more like a camp than a church."

In addition to being the author of the new FREE curriculum, Hello Friends, available at covchurch.org, Scott recently led a popular seminar on the importance of children's ministry at Midwinter.  Scott has seen Redwood Covenant's ministry to children grow from 30 to 500 kids in the 19 years he's been there.

Come learn about Redwood's mistakes, joys, experiments, and failures when an exploding children's ministry changes a church culture in exciting and terrifying ways. We hope you can join us for a day of learning, worship, lunch and new ideas. Bring your senior pastor and even your ministry team to generate some lively discussion.

RSVP to the NWC office or kara@nwc-cov.org.

NWC Church Resource Bank

Some of you have been asking how we can share resources with one another. Our conference website has a Church Resource Bank where you can post your extra resources or what you are in need of (located under the resources tab on the main homepage).

Go ahead and post something. Let's help each other out!

Respectful Communication and Cultural Awareness seminar

Location: Redeemer Covenant Church, Brooklyn Park

Date: March 3    Time: 1-3 p.m.

Interested in cross-cultural ministry in your church and/or community? The variety of cultures and ethnic backgrounds that make up our churches and communities can be both a gift and a challenge.

You are invited to a seminar led by Kim Ostad and Merci Rocha from World Vision Twin Cities to equip churches to better understand and reach out across differences. The afternoon session (1-3 p.m.) will focus on practical application for welcoming families in to your church and reaching out to the community around you.

Any questions or to RSVP (by Feb. 24), contact Amy Long at amyl@redeemercov.org

Dr. Kara Powell, author of 'Sticky Faith,' to speak at Annual Meeting

Kara Powell

For many Christian church youth group graduates, the transition to college is rocky at best in terms of faith retention. Previous studies indicate that 40 percent to 50 percent of all youth group graduates fail to stick with their faith or connect with a faith community after high school.

To give parents, leaders, and churches the practical tools needed to instill long-term faith in young people, the Fuller Youth Institute (FYI) at Fuller Seminary has just completed six years of what they call "Sticky Faith" research through the College Transition Project. www.stickyfaith.org

The Northwest Conference is thrilled to have Dr. Kara Powell, author of "Sticky Faith," as the keynote speaker for our NWC Annual Meeting April 25-27, 2013, held at Minnehaha Academy.

Dr. Kara Powell will speak on Friday night, April 26 and Saturday morning April 27. These sessions are at Minnehaha Academy and are free and open to the public. We hope to be able to offer childcare at these sessions, as well as to facilitate a discussion after Friday night's worship service for those interested in practical application.

Look for more information coming soon and we hope to see your leadership teams, parents and ministry staff in April!
