July 2014 Summer Newsletter

  Manners Monday
Tanning Etiquette from UVA to UVB
I grew up in Miami Beach in the seventies where tanning was a competitive sport. Each sunny day, we would put on our teeny string bikinis armed with baby oil and a metallic UV reflector to worship at the feet of the sun god. The poster girl for suntan perfection was the cute little blonde from the Coppertone ad. Her bare bottom exposing the difference between pasty pale and beautifully tanned skin. Read more

Dine with Decorum

Selecting an inspired menu of whole, healthy foods raises the dining experience to a higher level. Each month we will bring you a list of seasonal ingredients, courtesy of Women's Day, to incorporate into your grocery shopping list.

In July, include the following in your summer menus: Apricots, Blueberries, Cantaloupes, Cherries, Corn, Crenshaw Melons, Cucumbers, Green Beans, Figs, Nectarines, Peaches, Plums, Strawberries, Tomatoes, Watermelons
Yellow Squash and Zucchini.

The 4th of July holiday marks the official middle of summer.  Hard to believe there are only approximately six more blissful weeks of fun in the sun remaining. Where does the time go?  It felt like yesterday that my oldest daughter graduated from 6th grade and only a moment ago that I put my youngest on the bus for sleep away camp. I can't even fathom what will transpire mid-August when both girls return home and we have just ten days to scramble and get them ready for school to begin.  Sigh... But for now, I am putting it all aside and relishing in leisurely blocks of time with no school schedules to adhere to, no lunches to be made, and thankfully no dealing with rush hour traffic.

Summertime at Beverly Hills Manners, however, is heating up! We are primed and ready with a wide variety of class offerings at our two venues Fleming's Steakhouse and Bedford & Burns.  For recent grads, our "Going Off to College Manners" program arms students with all the life skills they need to step foot on the college campus with confidence. For all ages, our "Dine with Decorum: Tools for the Table & Beyond" will tame and refine the most vulgar of dining offenses. Back by popular demand, our 3-day "Summer Manners Boot Camp" is a fun and educational alternative to normal summer fare. Take advantage of our early registration for Season Six of "Let's Dance!" Cotillion at the Beverly Wilshire this fall.  And, of course, our "Modern Manners" program for kids, teens and adults laying a foundation of good manners across the board.

Finally, in addition to all our classes, we are also available for private etiquette consulting and coaching opportunities spanning the subjects. Prefer your coaching by phone? Arrange a 1-hour phone session and have all your burning etiquette questions and conundrums answered. We are here to help.

Very best wishes!
