Mayor Frank DelCore presented a proclamation to the Auten Road Intermediate School proclaiming May 20th as Fifth Grade Colonial Day. This event, which has become an annual tradition for Auten Road School's 5th graders, began several years ago as a result of the teachers' and students' desire to celebrate Colonial Heritage. The day consists of educational and creative activities representative of the Colonial Era.

In addition to the planned activities, a Colonial Day themed art contest was held, with the winners being recognized at the May 10th Township Committee Meeting.

Join The Force For Lung Health

On May 21st, the American Lung Association and its partners, CVS Health and Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey will gather at Colonial Park in Somerset to present LUNG FORCE, an educational lung health event/walk providing resources and information to prevent lung disease and to promote lung health. Why join us?

Lung cancer is the #1 cancer killer of both men and women. More people die from lung cancer each year than colon, prostate and breast cancer combined. In both women and nonsmokers, lung cancer is on the rise.

Asthma is the #1 reason students miss school. Nationwide, New Jersey ranks 9th highest in pediatric asthma and 11th highest in adult asthma.

COPD is the third leading cause of death in the United States. Over 11 million people have been diagnosed although an estimated 24 million may have it and not know it. Often times it is misdiagnosed as asthma. New Jersey ranks 13th in the nation for COPD.

Support from the event goes towards lung cancer research ($6.5 million allocated this year), asthma/COPD research (fund our 17 airways research centers) and our programs to help those who struggle to breathe (Better Breathers Clubs, Open Airways for School program and more).

The event will begin at 8:30am where participants will engage in our educational Healthy Air Square area followed by a 3.1 mile walk in scenic Colonial Park. There will be a fun Kids Zone area, and post picnic where hot dogs and more will be provided.

Attention Property Owners, Developers and Businesses

The New Jersey State Legislature has elected not to extend the Permit Extension Act of 2008 which, because of the economic struggles suffered by the construction industry, stopped the clock on the time remaining to begin work on a permitted (approved for construction) project before the approved permit expired.  A "grace period" ending June 30, 2016 is now in place.  An approved permit carries a one year timeframe for which work must be vested meaning work has substantially begun and has had at least one progress inspection during the last six months.  Any permit issued before June 2015, will become invalid and deemed expired if not vested by the end of the grace period.  To commence work on an invalid or expired permit, you will be required to submit a new permit application for review and approval.  (More information is also explained by the attached letter from the NJDCA Division of Codes and Standards Director Ed Smith).  If you have any questions or concerns regarding the pending status of your approved permit, please call the Hillsborough Building Department at 908-369-4313, exts. 7164, 7165, 7166 or 7204, during normal business hours.
Hurricane Preparedness Week - May 15-21

From the Office of Emergency Management:  As we prepare for the upcoming Hurricane Season in the North East, the Hillsborough OEM will provide informational updates and links to assist residents.

The National Hurricane Center and the Central Pacific Hurricane Center issue watches, warnings, forecasts, and analyses of hazardous tropical weather.

Hurricane Preparedness Week (May 15-21, 2016) is your time to prepare for a potential land-falling tropical storm or hurricane. Learn how with the daily tips below and related links. Share these with your friends and family to ensure that they're prepared.
