Julieyanna Parker Recognized for Outstanding High School Swim Career

Julieyanna Parker, a senior at Hillsborough High School, has completed her final season representing the Hillsborough High School Swim team by capturing her third straight victory in the 100-yard butterfly and being crowned "State Champion" at the Meet of Champions, finishing in 55.30 seconds.

Julieyanna has earned nine State Championship titles, three being individual and six in relays throughout her swimming career at Hillsborough High School and two of Julieyanna's relay titles still hold the New Jersey State records.  Additionally, Julieyanna was named the 2015 NJ State "Female Swimmer of the Year".

Coach Todd Sudol stated that "Julieyanna has been a complete joy to coach.  She was always willing to listen".

Julieyanna will be attending the University of San Diego in the fall of 2016, and will once again be demonstrating her abilities, sense of teamwork, and character.

March is National Nutrition Month

The Mayor and Township Committee encourage all Hillsborough residents to join the "National Nutrition Month" campaign and become concerned about their nutrition and the nutrition of others in the hope of achieving optimum health for both today and tomorrow.

Food is the substance by which life is sustained and the type, quality, and amount of food that individuals consume each day plays a vital role in their overall health and physical fitness as well as the prevention of chronic diseases.  There is a need for continuing nutrition education and wide-scale effort to enhance good eating practices.

National Nutrition Month, a nutrition education and information campaign sponsored annually by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, helps spread the word about the importance of a healthy diet and regular exercise.

RVCC Nursing Students Present Timeless Movement Workshop

Earlier this month Hillsborough Township's Social Services Department sponsored two workshops, presented by five RVCC senior nursing students and a fitness student, to teach township employees and senior citizens how to "Turn Sitting Into Fitness".  Employees and seniors participated in two short classes, which included easy exercise movements designed to be done while seated at a desk or at home.

April is National Volunteer Appreciation Month and it is a time to celebrate and honor those who dedicate their time to be stewards and leaders within their communities through their volunteerism.  Hillsborough Township is kicking off Volunteer Appreciation Month with a new recognition program, announced Deputy Mayor Carl Suraci at Tuesday's Township Committee meeting.

"The volunteer spirit in Hillsborough is a tremendous asset to our community, as such it is only fitting that we take the time to recognize those individuals who give so freely of themselves in the many selfless ways in support of our community," stated Deputy Mayor Carl Suraci.

March 31 Family Fun Night in Hillsborough

"Celebrate Local Heroes."

It is a free event with pizza and an ice cream social. We will have those who attend create cards, letters, posters, etc., to thank our First Responders. The impetus for this was the Hillsborough fire but we don't want that to be our only focus. We want this to be a large thank you for all they do.

Call Before You Dig!

The federally mandated, national phone number, 811,helps prevent you from unintentionally hitting under-ground utility lines. Before you begin projects that involve digging, dial 811 to locate underground electric, gas or other utility lines. Digging without this information can cause power outages, and it's extremely dangerous.

Simply tell the 811 operator where you're planning to dig and what type of work you will be doing, and your local utility companies will be notified. Within a few days, they will mark the location of underground lines. Please call at least three days in advance to avoid unnecessary delays to your project. Know what's below - Call before you dig!

Spring Princess Ball
Meet a real live princess and be part of the fairy tale.

As the flowers start to bloom, little girls from all over central New Jersey will be coming together to dress up and socialize with a real live Princess. On April 10th from 1:30-3:30 The Dance Connection transforms into a palace. Young princesses, ages 7 and under, from all over the land are invited to join in the princessing.

Every young princess that attends The Spring Princess Ball will play a special part in the fairy tale. Each child gets a special moment with the guest princess during the royal procession.  Children dance, do ballet and make a magical craft they get to take home. All young ladies who attend the ball are encouraged to wear their favorite princess dress. The special princess guest will be available for photos, smiles, and lots of fun. For parents, this is an opportunity to capture a happy memory in your child's life.  All activities are completely free. Everyone is welcome.

The Spring Princess Ball is hosted by The Dance Connection Performing Arts Center. The artists and mentors at The Dance Connection have been nurturing dancers and performers for more than a decade. Artistic director, David Kieffer says "Our teachers are passionate about getting children to perform. Our princess programs have been very popular.
