Personal Security Advisory

Due to the recent increase in credit card, bank account and IRS scams the Hillsborough Township Police Department would like to remind all residents that you should not give your credit card or bank account information to anyone over the telephone that you have not initiated an activity with.  If you receive a call stating that you have an outstanding balance and you must provide your credit card or bank account information to have the matter resolved, simply ask the caller for a return telephone number so you can gather your account information and call them back.  Do not provide account information over the telephone.  Additionally, if you receive a call from someone claiming they are from the IRS and have a warrant for your arrest, do not provide them with any personal information.  The IRS would not initiate such activity over the telephone.  Again, do not provide credit card or bank account information to them.  Furthermore, if the caller is claiming to be from your utility company, ask for the call back information, write it down, gather your utility account information and call the number listed on your utility bill first.  Often times once you ask for their call back information, they will most likely hang up.  You may also receive these types of notifications via email or text message.  Again, please call your utility company or your credit card company directly before sending any account information via email or text message as a response.  It is better to question where the request is coming than to just provide your personal account information to a potential fraudulent activity.

"Celebrate Local Heroes."

It is a free event with pizza and an ice cream social. We will have those who attend create cards, letters, posters, etc., to thank our First Responders. The impetus for this was the Hillsborough fire but we don't want that to be our only focus. We want this to be a large thank you for all they do.
