Somerville Industrial Park Fire Update
The fire that began Thursday afternoon at the Somerville Industrial Park remains contained to two buildings on the premises. The buildings were each 240,000 square feet in size. Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Companies and other Fire Companies from throughout the State have aided in the response and tanker operations remain on the scene.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Emergency Response and the United States Environmental Protection Agency have been on site since Thursday evening and will remain on scene for further air quality monitoring until fire is fully extinguished. There is no imminent public health threat.
Power has been restored to all residents in the area, however, power remains out to the Industrial Park.
Thank you to all of the Volunteer Fire Companies and fighters and Emergency Responders for their tireless efforts. Any residents wishing to make donations to any of the Fire Companies please contact Fire Safety on Tuesday at 908-369-5856.

Boyle and Fitzpatrick Sworn in as Lieutenants in Hillsborough Township Police Department
Veterans of the Force Promoted to Fill Vacancies
The Hillsborough Township Committee promoted two long time veterans of the Police Department to the position of Lieutenant at Tuesday's meeting. The vacancies in the position of Lieutenant were the result of the promotions of Chief Darren Powell and Captain Fran Mozgai.
"Once again, we turn to the depth of our Police Department for these promotions," stated Mayor Frank DelCore during his comments when the resolution authorizing their promotion was brought forth.

From the Office of Emergency Management - Hillsborough Township
As temperatures drop this winter, the American Red Cross offers ten steps people can take to stay safe during the cold weather. - Layer up! Wear layers of lightweight clothing to stay warm. Gloves and a hat will help prevent losing your body heat.
- Don't forget your furry friends. Bring pets indoors. If they can't come inside, make sure they have enough shelter to keep them warm and that they can get to unfrozen water.
- Remember the three feet rule. If you are using a space heater, place it on a level, hard surface and keep anything flammable at least three feet away - things such as paper, clothing, bedding, curtains or rugs.
- Requires supervision - Turn off space heaters and make sure fireplace embers are out before leaving the room or going to bed.
- Don't catch fire! If you are using a fireplace, use a glass or metal fire screen large enough to catch sparks and rolling logs.
- Protect your pipes. Run water, even at a trickle, to help prevent your pipes from freezing. Open the kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around the plumbing. Be sure to move any harmful cleaners and household chemicals out of the reach of children. Keep the garage doors closed if there are water lines in the garage.
- Better safe than sorry. Keep the thermostat at the same temperature day and night. Your heating bill may be a little higher, but you could avoid a more costly repair job if your pipes freeze and burst.
- The kitchen is for cooking. Never use a stove or oven to heat your home.
- Use generators outside. Never operate a generator inside the home, including in the basement or garage.
- Knowledge is power. Don't hook a generator up to the home's wiring. The safest thing to do is to connect the equipment you want to power directly to the outlets on the generator.

When Should You Give Final Payment to Your Contractor?
When should you give final payment to your contractor? Well, New Jersey State Dept. of Consumer Affairs Law 13:45A - 16.2 specifies that....... "final inspections are required before final payment is made to contractor". This declaration, printed on the reverse side of the Construction Permit Notice, applies to any scope of work no matter how small or large. So not only does this law provide you with leverage to ensure the work is completed but also meets code requirements.
