Hillsborough Rotary Prepares for Next Operation Shoebox Packing Event
Hillsborough, N.J. January 12, 2016...Gift packages with toiletries and snacks from home are welcomed by our troops abroad all year long, which means that the work of preparing those gift packages doesn't end with the Holiday Season. Pictured below are members of the Hillsborough Rotary Club hard at work sorting 155 boxes of donated goods that were collected by employees of TD Banks throughout the East Coast. Approximately 20 Rotarians and their family members and friends turned out on Saturday morning, January 9, to sort thousands of donated items into dozens of categories that will enable future Operation Shoebox packing events to operate with military precision.
"We support many very worthy organizations in Hillsborough," commented Hillsborough Rotary Club President, John Shockley, " but there is a very special place in members' hearts for our troops serving around the world. So, when Operation Shoebox requests our help, we turn out with smiles on our faces and our sleeves rolled up."
It took over three hours to uncrate sort and group the goods by category so that volunteers will be able to quickly assemble the gift packages that will be sent to the troops. The next Operation Shoebox packing event will be held February 13 at the Manville VFW Post.
Hillsborough Rotary Club Director Patricia Marciano (facing camera far left) is joined by her club colleagues in sorting through thousands of donated items ranging from shampoo to beef jerky.

Volunteers Wanted for Raritan Headwaters' 26th Annual Stream Clean Up
Looking for an opportunity to help clean up your watershed and improve the water quality of your streams? Then join Raritan Headwaters Association for our 26th Annual Stream Clean Up on Saturday, April 16.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, rain or shine, at multiple sites along the Raritan River throughout Hunterdon, Somerset and Morris Counties.
Everyone is invited to participate, from individuals and families to businesses, civic organizations and church groups, at the site of their choice. Bags, gloves, t-shirts and snacks will be provided. Participants need only bring their enthusiasm.
RHA's largest annual volunteer event, the Stream Clean Up directly and immediately benefits both the North and South Branches of the Raritan River. In 2015, more than a thousand volunteers helped RHA remove nearly 10 tons of trash from sites in 29 towns. In just three hours, the small army collected an assortment of debris that ranged from tangled fishing line, plastic bags and bottles, to a Ford pickup tailgate, leaf blower, tires, and 300 pounds of scrap metal.
