Hillsborough Township Recognizes "Movember" as Men's Health Awareness Month

Mayor Doug Tomson and the Township Committee presented a proclamation at the November 24th Township Committee meeting recognizing the Movember Men's Health Awareness Movement.   Movember is committed to raising awareness about men's health issues and their effect on fathers, sons, brothers, uncles and husbands across the United States and the world.  All men are urged to become aware of their risks for prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health issues as well as to obtain regular screenings for early detection.

Township Committee Honors Middle School Cross Country Team

The Mayor and Township Committee honored the Hillsborough Middle School Boys Cross Country Team with a proclamation for their very successful season at the November 24th Township Committee Meeting.

The team were the Champions of the Central Jersey Cross Country Conference and won their first ever Central Jersey Cross Country Conference Meet of Champions Event and finished the season with an undefeated record of 9-0.

Coach Rourke's philosophy "Be better tomorrow than you were today"  applied to both on and off the field and within the community as well; this philosophy was embraced by every team member which in turn helped the team to  reach the heights they did this season.

Municipal Complex is Celebrating 25 Years

Hillsborough Residents and Hillsborough Based Businesses are
Invited to Design the Commemorative Logo - Due December 21st

"Hillsborough Township Municipal Complex will celebrate a Silver Anniversary during 2016," announced Mayor Doug Tomson at Tuesday's Township Committee meeting.

"As part of the festivities, we are having a contest to design a commemorative logo which will be used for a banner and letterhead for the year as well as other festivities during the year," added Mayor Tomson.

The Hillsborough Township Municipal Complex, originally dedicated on January 14, 1991, was the vision of then Mayor Peter J. Biondi.  The building was later dedicated to the late politician who later became a Somerset County Freeholder and ultimately a member of the New Jersey Assembly before his untimely passing in 2011.

December Recycling Calendar: 'First Saturday,' Holiday Closing

First Saturday drop-off events enable busy residents to recycle tires, clean textiles and usual curbside items in one fell swoop.  They also enable residents to help people in the community who are less fortunate by donating food items for a local food bank.  The next First Saturday of the Month Drop-off event will be on Dec. 5 from 8 am to 2 pm at the Somerset County Recycling Center, located at 40 Polhemus Lane.

Due to the holiday, some recycling pickups scheduled in Somerset County the week of Dec. 28 may be delayed. Residents are asked to leave their recyclables at the curb.  Remaining collections will be completed as soon as possible. The Somerset County Recycling Division thanks residents for their patience and understanding.

For more information, call the Somerset County Recycling Center at (732) 469-3363.  To view the 2015 Recycling Collection Schedule and more, go to www.co.somerset.nj.us/recycle/recyclescedule.html.
