Annual Children's Halloween Party
Hillsborough Township's annual Children's Halloween party was held yesterday at the municipal complex. Hundreds of the township's youngest residents came out in costume to join in the festivities. Children toured the Haunted House and enjoyed a hayride to the pumpkin patch where they were able pick a pumpkin to decorate and take home.

Howl-O-Ween Dog Parade and Costume Contest
October 31 at the Ann Van Middlesworth Dog Park
The first annual Howl-O-Ween will feature a dog parade and costume contest.
Costume Contest Categories Include:

- Best Dog/Owner Costumer Combo

Hillsborough Township Recognizes Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Committeewoman Gloria McCauley recently attended the Ribbons of Hope fundraiser hosted by Kathleen Academy of Dance to help increase breast cancer awareness and to raise funds to support local families who are struggling from the effects of their fight with cancer.

Affinity Hillsborough Rewards Credit Card Program: Four Non-Profits Receiving Fall 2015 Grant Awards
Since Inception, Over $40,000 in Grants Awarded to Hillsborough Non-Profit Organizations Serving our Youths and Seniors
Four different non-profit organizations received grant awards through the Hillsborough Rewards Visa Credit Card Program at Tuesday's Township Committee Meeting. Representatives from the organizations were present to accept the ceremonial check presented by Mayor Doug Tomson, Committeeman and Liaison to the Credit Card Advisory Committee Carl Suraci and the members of the Credit Card Advisory Committee. The total amount awarded Tuesday evening was $4,224.50. Since the inception of the program, over $40,000 in grants to community based youth, senior and local non-profit organizations have been awarded. The Fall 2015 Grant recipients are:

Youth Services Receives Grant From Somerset County
The Hillsborough/Municipal Municipal Youth Services Commission was recently awarded a $5,000 grant from the Somerset County Freeholders.
At a recent Township Committee Meeting, Pastor Tim Wolf, chair of the Hillsborough/Municipal Municipal Youth Services Commission, presented Hillsborough Township with the annual grant on behalf of the Somerset County Freeholders.

Hillsborough Township Again Receives the New Jersey Smart Workplaces Platinum Award
Hillsborough is One of Only Two Municipalities to Receive Platinum Status
"Hillsborough Township was once again honored at the Annual RideWise recognition breakfast as one of only two municipalities in Somerset County to receive Platinum status in the New Jersey Smart Workplace Program. Last year, Hillsborough was the first Somerset County Municipality to achieve platinum," announced Mayor Doug Tomson at Tuesday's Township Committee meeting

The 9th Annual recognition breakfast was held on September 30, 2015. Somerset County business and government leaders gathered to recognize programs implemented to improve commuters' quality of life. RideWise, a Transportation Management Association (TMA) based in Somerset County, is a source for sustainable travel and alternatives that improve mobility, reduce traffic and decrease carbon emissions.
New Jersey Smart Workplaces is a statewide program that recognizes employers and municipalities who show vision and leadership by providing commuter benefits to employees.

Minute-to-Win-It Montgomery vs. Hillsborough Seniors
Hillsborough and Montgomery Seniors battled it out in a "Minute to Win It" game show style competition last week. Students from one 4th grade class from each town joined in the competition while Montgomery Mayor Christine Madrid and Hillsborough Administrator Anthony Ferrera served as referees. The event, organized by both senior centers and sponsored by the Montgomery/Rocky Hill and Hillsborough Rotary Clubs, was as great success. Both teams fought hard for the win, but in the end Montgomery took home the trophy.

General Election is Tuesday, November 3rd
Polls Open 6am - 8pm
The General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2015. Polls are open from 6a.m. to 8p.m., in accordance with New Jersey State Law. Please utilize your sample ballot that is mailed to you in advance of the Election to determine your polling location and voting district. This information is printed on the front cover of the sample ballot. To expedite your voting experience bring your sample ballot to the polls with you on Election Day.

The Shop Hillsborough Reward program continues to promote local shopping while allowing card holders the opportunity to reduce their property tax bill.
If you don't have a Shop Hillsborough card, be sure to stop by the Administration office in the Municipal Building to pick one up. Free registration is required. Additional cards may be obtained for each member in a household with the same block and lot. All household spending will be applied against your property tax bill.

Suicide Prevention Workshop November 2nd
Because suicide is the fourth leading cause of death for New Jersey's youth, Somerset County Freeholder Brian D. Levine invites parents, guardians and professionals who work with children and families to a suicide prevention workshop, which will be held Monday, Nov. 2, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
The program will be held in the first floor conference room at the Somerset County Human Services Building, located at 27 Warren Street. Parking is available in the adjacent parking deck. Registration will start at 6:30 p.m.; snacks will be available.

Life Skills Presents: A Free Substance Abuse Prevention Parent Education Program!
WHERE: Hillsborough Middle School - Media Center
WHEN: Tuesday, November 10th
TIME: 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m
PRESENTER: Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey
The 15 Minute Child Break presentation is supported by research which
demonstrates that kids who communicate regularly with their parents about their daily activities are 67% less likely to be involved with substance abuse than children who have little or no communication.
A presentation for parents, grandparents and caregivers of students in grades 4 through 12. Spend an hour learning how to talk to your kids about drugs and alcohol.
The 15-Minute Child Break is a free, one-hour, interactive Power Point presentation that informs, encourages and empowers parents to listen and communicate effectively with their children in order to prevent substance use.
The 15 Minute Child Break covers topics such as: - Talking to your kids about drugs and alcohol
- Effects of specific drugs
- Strengthening parenting skills
- Utilizing teachable moments

Drive-Thru Flu Clinic Oct. 31 in Hillsborough
Halloween treat: Protect yourself from the flu
Flu season is in full swing, but there's still time to get your flu shot.
Somerset County Freeholder Peter S. Palmer invites adult residents to take advantage of a flu shot clinic Saturday, Oct. 31, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Somerset County South County Public Works Garage, 410 Roycefield Road, Hillsborough, NJ 08844. The cost is $5 for the general public and free for emergency and first responders who have proper identification.
While it's not possible to predict what this flu season will be like, adults age 18 and older, and especially first responders, are urged to protect themselves against the main flu viruses that may be circulating this season by getting a flu shot.

Somerset County Senior Centers Announce November Programs
The Senior Centers operated by the Somerset County Office on Aging & Disability Services have announced the new monthly program schedule. All programs begin at 11:00 a.m. unless otherwise listed. Please call for lunch reservations by 10 a.m. the day before you wish to come, unless indicated otherwise. A suggested lunch donation for those over age 60 is $2.00; the cost of lunch for those under age 60 is $6.99. For more information, contact the appropriate centers.

Electronic Waste Recycling Locations in Somerset County Have Changed
Locations to recycle consumer electronic waste (e-waste), free of charge, in Somerset County have changed.
For the convenience of residents, locations in the northern and southern portion of the county are now available to recycle e-waste, Monday through Friday.
Following is the schedule of days, locations and times for 2015 Saturday and weekday recycling under the revised Somerset County Electronic Waste Program: - Saturday drop-offs: Nov. 7 and Dec. 5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the South County Public Works Garage, 410 Roycefield Road, Hillsborough, NJ 08844.
- Weekday drop-offs: Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the North County Public Works Facility, 411 Chimney Rock Road - north of Route 22 - Building B, Bridgewater, NJ 08807 and the South County Public Works Garage, 410 Roycefield Road, Hillsborough, NJ 08844.

Leaf Drop Off and Pick Up Program
A special reminder from the Hillsborough Township Department of Public Works the 2015 leaf pick up & drop off program will start November 2nd the program runs through December 2015 (weather permitting).
Residents are reminded to not rake leaves into the roadway (ordinance # 2005-42: Yard Waste in Roadway).

Fall Leaf Clean-Up Help Available to Elderly & Disabled Residents

Do you know an elderly or disabled person who needs help getting his or her yard ready for the winter months?
The Somerset County Office of Volunteer Services will have volunteers available in November to rake leaves for elderly and disabled homeowners around the county who have no other means to do yard work.
If you need this service or know someone who does, contact Laurie Beckhorn in the Office of Volunteer Services by Nov. 2 at (908) 541-5715.

Zufall Health Offers 'Free' 3-Part Series Entitled: Empowering Women to Lead Healthier Lives
Zufall Health, a nonprofit medical and dental center, is offering a FREE 3-part series designed specifically for women residing in Somerset County who are seeking information for living a healthier life. The program will provide participants with guidance to equip them with the knowledge and confidence they need to help prevent future financial crises and enable them to make healthier choices. You will find attached the flyer for, "Part 1- Dollars and Sense" and for the entire 3-part series: "Empowering Women to Lead Healthier Lives".
