Township Recognizes October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month
At the October 13th Township Committee meeting, the Mayor and Township Committee presented a proclamation recognizing October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The awareness campaign encourages individuals to help reduce their risk of breast cancer through regular self-exams, clinical breast exams, and mammograms which are vital since treatments are most effective when breast cancer is detected early.

Kathleen Cirioli, a two time cancer survivor, along with Joanne Liscovitz,co-founders of Dance for the Cure, a non-profit organization have helped local families impacted by breast cancer; with donations totaling over $380,000 to date. Dance for the Cure produces their largest fundraising event of the year, "Ribbons of Hope" which raises approximately $50,000 each year, supported by  local businesses who donate goods and services.

October is National Fire Safety Awareness Month
The Mayor and the Township Committee presented a proclamation recognizing October as National Fire Safety Awareness Month at the October 13th Township Committee Meeting.

The 2015 Fire Prevention theme, "Hear the Beep Where You Sleep.  Every Bedroom Needs a Working Smoke Alarm!" effectively serves to remind us that we need working smoke alarms to give us the time to get out safely.

Residents are urged to install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of the home, including the basement and to support the many public safety activities and efforts of fire and emergency services during the month of October.

Hillsborough Qualifies for 100% of Eligible State Aid
Township Meets Best Practices Requirements Every Year Since Inception of the Program in 2010

Hillsborough Township once again qualifies for 100% of eligible State Aid, according to Committeeman Carl Suraci, Chair to the Finance Committee.

"The 2015 Best Practices Worksheet sets a standard for municipalities to achieve in the areas of general, financial and budget management, along with personnel compliance and disaster preparedness.  Hillsborough Township's policies and procedures ensure continued compliance with these standards," added Committeeman Suraci.

The Best Practices Inventory Questionnaire, which began six years ago, is issued by the state to determine whether a municipality is using the best management and fiscal practices on behalf of taxpayers.

Cyber Security Awareness  - Are Your Passwords Secure?

We now live in a world that is more connected than ever before. The Internet touches almost all aspects of everyone's daily life, whether we realize it or not. Recognizing the importance of cybersecurity to our nation, President Obama designated October as National Cyber Security Awareness Month. National Cyber Security Awareness Month is designed to engage and educate public and private sector partners through events and initiatives with the goal of raising awareness about cybersecurity and increasing the resiliency of the nation in the event of a cyber incident.

KEEP YOUR PASSWORD SAFE BY FOLLOWING THESE EASY TIPS:
  • DEVELOP strong passwords that use a combination of words, numbers, symbols, and both upper and lower case letters
  • CREATE a password phrase and make it relevant.  If you're joining a shopping site for example, think "About to Use Shopping Site" and use "ABT2_uz_$h0pping"
  • USE different passwords for every unique account, such as work, banking, and email
  • DISABLE the "save password" feature in your Internet browser
