Township Recognizes 13U Baseball Team

Mayor Doug Tomson and the Township Committee presented a proclamation to the Hillsborough 13U Gold Travel Baseball Team at a Township Committee Meeting earlier this  month. The team earned the title of Northern New Jersey 13U Babe Ruth State Champions. This is the first time a team from the Hillsborough Baseball League has won a state championship and went on to be semi-finalists in the Middle Atlantic Region Play-offs.

OTW Update

On Wednesday, September 16th the New Jersey Racing Commission approved an application for an OTW to be located at the former Maestro 206 Restaurant.  The application is now subject to review by the Attorney General.  Any additional comments or concerns should be directed to the New Jersey Racing Commission or to the Attorney General's Office.

Hillsborough Township to Host 2nd Annual Senior Olympics Friday, October 2nd
Rain date October 5th

Hillsborough Township will once again host the 'Senior Olympics' in October announced Mayor Doug Tomson. 
 
"Last year's inaugural event was such a success that we will make this an annual event for our Seniors," said Mayor Doug Tomson.
 
The Hillsborough Township Senior Olympics will be held on Friday, October 2nd, with a rain date of Monday, October 5th, from 10am until 2pm at the Ann Van Middlesworth Park.  Sign in begins at 9am.  This Township sponsored event is open to all Hillsborough Senior Citizens.

Halloween Events Planned in Hillsborough Township
Children's Halloween Party set for Thursday, October 29th (Municipal Complex)
New this Year - Doggie Halloween Party set for Saturday, October 31st (AVM Dog Park) 

"Hillsborough Township's Halloween Party is set for Thursday, October 29th at 4:30 pm at the Municipal Complex," announced Committeeman Frank DelCore, Liaison to Parks and Recreation. 
 
The Party will run from 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm and will be complete with a hay ride to pick a pumpkin, a visit to the haunted house and goodie bags.  Pre-registration is required and can be completed via the Hillsborough Township website.
 
"New this year, we will host our first ever Doggie Halloween Party at our new dog park at AVM, on Saturday, October 31st at 10:30 am, complete with a costume contest," stated Committeeman DelCore.

Save the Date - Hillsborough Township to Participate in the NJ Devils' "My Town" Series on December 11th
Special Tickets to be Available for the NJ Devils vs Detroit Red Wings

"Hillsborough Township will again participate in the New Jersey Devils' 'My Town' Series on December 11th during a Devils game against the Detroit Red Wings," announced Mayor Doug Tomson.

"Earlier this year, Hillsborough was featured during a game complete with a highlight video and an extended standing ovation for our Hometown Hero for the game, Veteran and Purple Heart Recipient Ted Dima," added Mayor Tomson.

Hillsborough Health Department Seasonal Flu Vaccination Clinics

The Hillsborough Health Department will sponsor flu vaccinations in September and October, to Hillsborough Township and Millstone Borough residents, age 18 years and older. The flu vaccine will protect against the four strains of influenza most likely to cause illness during the 2015-2016 season. 
 
There will be a $25 charge to all participants unless a Medicare Part B Card is presented. We cannot accept medical insurance. If you are allergic to eggs or have any severe allergies, or if you have a fever, you may be excluded from receiving the vaccine. Clinics will be held at the Hillsborough Municipal Building on the following dates:
 
Wednesday, September 30, 2-4 PM and 5 to 7 PM 
Thursday, October 1, 4 to 7 PM
 
There is no pre-registration required. Clinics will be held as long as vaccine is received. We are now waiting for the vaccine to arrive. Please check the website at http://www.hillsborough-nj.org/departments/health/ for schedule changes.

Registration for Fall Recreation Programs Now Open

Recreation programs in the fall include Tiny Football, Tiny Wiffleball, and Fall Sports Fun for ages 4-6 and a NEW adult program: Zumba!  A full listing of programs can be found in the Fall Activities Guide, and registration is available on the Parks & Recreation website or by contacting the department.  Register now as classes are beginning soon!

Grant Applications Now Being Accepted by the Hillsborough Rewards Credit Card Program

Non-Profit Groups Serving Youth and Seniors Invited to Apply Deadline is September 30, 2015 

The Hillsborough Township Credit Card Advisory Committee opened the fall grant application cycle on September 1st for the second round of grants for 2015. Committeeman Carl Suraci, Liaison to the Credit Card Advisory Committee stated, "Applications are available for Hillsborough Township based non-profit, senior and youth organizations to apply for grants up to $2,000 funded through the Hillsborough Township Rewards Credit Card Program." 

The grant applications can be found on the Hillsborough Township website at www.hillsborough-nj.org . Also, copies are available at the Municipal Clerk / Administration Office. Completed applications are to be returned by September 30, 2015

Family Unity Night
Wednesday Nights at Hillsborough Middle School
October 7th-November 18th 2015

Family Unity Night is a free  7 week program for 10-14 year olds and their parents/caregivers. Sessions run from 6:30pm - 8:30pm and will include a free light dinner.  Topics covered will include Communication Skills, Stress Managent, Family Fun, and Problem Solving.

Somerset County Surrogate to Speak at Local Libraries

Somerset County Surrogate Frank G. Bruno will speak about "How to Probate a Will in the Somerset County Surrogate's Court" and about recent changes in the law regarding probate.  Also included will be a discussion of "powers of attorney" and "living wills." This is a free presentation that includes complimentary materials on the subject.  Pre-registration is requested but not required.
 
The locations, dates and times of the Surrogate's presentations are as follows:
 
Monday, Oct. 12, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. - Hillsborough Library 
Friday, Oct. 30, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. - Bridgewater Township Library

Leadership Somerset Hosts Open House
Get Your Questions Answered and Apply for the Class of 2016

Every sector of the Somerset County community needs adult leaders - people who are informed, engaged, connected and willing to lead positive change.
 
Adults who live or work in Somerset County are invited to apply for the Leadership Somerset Class of 2016. The application deadline is October 31. Benefits of the program include networking with community leaders, discovering Somerset County resources, exploring capacities of positive leadership, enhancing team and leadership skills and making an impact in the community.

SCLSNJ's Third Annual Small Business Expo @ the Hillsborough Public Library

The Somerset County Library System will host its third annual Small Business Expo at the Hillsborough Public Library on Saturday, October 3, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Learn about new local businesses and the products and services that they provide to the community.  Get inspired to start your own small business as support organizations such as the Hillsborough Township Business Advocate, the Small Business Development Center at RVCC, and Toastmasters will attend to answer questions.  For more information or to sign up, click here.

to visit SCLSNJ September 22 to register
  
Tuesday, September 22 is National Voter Registration Day and Somerset County Library System of New Jersey is encouraging eligible county residents to visit any of the 10 SCLSNJ library branches to register.
 
SCLSNJ will have paper voter registration forms available in both English and Spanish. No postage will be necessary.
 
Voter registration forms are always available at the 10 branches of SCLSNJ and can also be downloaded here: http://www.co.somerset.nj.us/elections/forms.htm .
