Sustainable Hillsborough Resource Guides

The Hillsborough Township Sustainable Steering Committee recently released five informational brochures on various topics for our residents, including a composting guide, information on invasive plants, environmentally friendly leaf and lawn care, recycling resources and water conservation. The brochures were created as a collaborative effort between the Township and the Hillsborough Sustainable Steering Committee to assist residents to make sustainable choices and are for informational purposes only. Residents can download the brochures from the Township's website at www.hillsborough-nj.org and are available at the Planning and Zoning Department.

RECYCLING
This brochure informs Hillsborough residents of the many different materials that can be recycled. There are so many products that get thrown away that could be recycled, therefore reducing landfill capacity.

COMPOSTING
The Composting brochure was created to inform Hillsborough residents of the importance of composting and how to build a compost pile in their own backyard. There are so many homeowners with an excessive quantity of leaves in the fall; composting is one alternative to dealing with those leaves environmentally.

WATER CONSERVATION
This brochure is to inform Hillsborough residents of the importance of conserving water as well as provide tips on how to do so.

CUT AND LEAVE IT
Today, grass clippings are a major part of New Jersey's municipal waste stream. As a Hillsborough Township resident, if you recycle your lawn clippings and leaves by bagging them for pick-up, you are already helping to avoid air pollution and wasted resources. You can do more by reducing waste at the source. Leave the grass clippings on your lawn when you mow, compost your leaves, and let nature do the recycling for you.

INVASIVE PLANTS
This brochure was compiled with resources from Duke Farms, New Jersey Audubon Society, the National Park Service, and the Department of Fish and Wildlife. Funding for this series was provided by a small capacity building grant through Sustainable Jersey.

The free public showing of the movie will be held Tuesday, Sept. 29, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Somerset County/Bridgewater Library at the corner of North Bridge Street and Vogt Drive. We are planning for the future and need your help!

The Hillsborough Township Public Schools are looking to parents, staff, community members, and business owners for help in the development of a five year Strategic Plan to support the goals of the district's nine township schools.

To ensure that all community members have a voice in planning for the future of the school district, we will hold a series of four meetings to solicit input and help shape the plan. These meeting will each last approximately 90 minutes and all community members are invited to attend one, two, or more meetings. Discussions at the meeting will focus on district direction, resources, priorities, and focus. The district steering committee will take public input from these meetings and use it to help finalize the district's strategic plan.

Public meetings have been scheduled for the Auten Road Intermediate School cafeteria for the following dates:

Tuesday, October 6 at 7:00pm
Wednesday, October 21 at 7:00pm
Wednesday, November 18 at 7:00pm
Tuesday, December 8 at 7:00pm

If you are interested in participating in the public planning sessions, we invite you to submit your name for inclusion at the district website.
