Township Opens New Dog Park at AVM

Before the storm rolled in last Thursday, Township Officials gathered at Ann Van Middlesworth to cut the ribbon on the newly designated area for the Township's Dog Park.

The announcement had been made a few weeks ago at a Township Committee meeting when the ordinance establishing the rules and regulations for the new recreational area was adopted.

"We are fortunate to have this area open for our four-legged friends," stated Mayor Doug Tomson.

The park, which sits at the back corner of AVM Park, behind softball field #2, double-gated, fenced in, leash free area is for dogs over the age of 6 month to socialize and exercise with their owners.  Dogs must also be spayed or neutered and cannot show any signs of aggression.  A complete listing of the rules and regulations for the new facility can be found in Ordinance 2015-11 and Chapter 221 of the Code of the Township of Hillsborough.

The park is open from dawn to dusk.

"Be sure to stop by with your dog and check out the newest addition to Hillsborough Parks," concluded Mayor Tomson.

Off Track Wagering Hearing Scheduled for July 22nd at HHS Auditorium

Mayor Tomson announced at the June 9th Hillsborough Township Committee meeting, that the New Jersey Racing Commission advised Hillsborough Township that the application filed by the NJ Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association, Inc, regarding the initial license for the planned off-track waging facility in Hillsborough New Jersey is now complete.

If there are no legal issues identified or new documents that need to be submitted that would render the application incomplete, N.J.S.A. 5:5-132 requires the NJ Racing Commission to schedule a public hearing within 45 days in Hillsborough.  As such, the New Jersey Racing Commission has scheduled a Public Hearing for Wednesday, July 22nd starting at 7pm at the Hillsborough High School Auditorium.

Due to the fact that the application is still under review by the NJ Racing Commission, information such as the application is not available until the NJ Racing Commission has completed its review.

The appropriate time to address any and all questions would be during the public hearing on July 22nd.

Swimming Pool and Permit Requirements

Generally speaking, pools, spas and hot tubs are categorized into three groups: in-ground; above/on-ground permanent; and above/on-ground temporary (seasonal), which include those that are portable or inflatable.

Are permits required for all pools, spas and hot tubs?  Maybe!  Here is a hint.....the STATE OF NEW JERSEY DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS, as a safety measure, requires that any pool, spa or hot tub, as defined by the International Residential Code (IRC) 2009, New Jersey Edition, as any structure intended for swimming or recreational bathing that can hold more than twenty-four (24) inches in depth of water, requires the proper Construction permits.  In addition, ALL appropriate requirements of the Municipal Zoning & Engineering Codes must be met.   So before you take the "plunge" and purchase a pool, spa or hot tub keep in mind that a Construction permit along with other Municipal approvals may be necessary.  You, your family and the public's safety is everyone's primary concern!

The chart below illustrates what permits and approvals are needed for compliance:
