SafeWise Releases 2015 "100 Safest Cities in America" Report
Hillsborough Township was ranked among the top 100 "Safest
Cities in America", according to Mayor Doug Tomson at Tuesday's Township Committee meeting this week.
"It is my honor to announce that Hillsborough Township has been ranked the 46th Safest City in America," stated Mayor Doug Tomson.
The SafeWise Report released its "100 Safest Cities in America" list yesterday, naming Hillsborough Township the 46th Safest City in America. To compile this report, SafeWise used the most recent FBI crime data from 2013 to analyze and rank these cities, which all have a minimum population of 10,000 people.
"Being ranked among the Top Safest Cities in America, is obviously a direct result of the diligent efforts and prevention programs of our Police Department and Emergency Responders as well as the overall community involvement in Hillsborough Township," commented Committeewoman Gloria McCauley, Liaison to Public Safety.
"I am certainly pleased to hear that Hillsborough Township has been recognized for being such a safe community, especially being one of the larger communities in this study. I attribute this status to the proactive police work by all the fine men and women in the department that are committed to serve our residents," commented Hillsborough Township Police Chief Paul Kaminsky.

This workshop is designed to help those dealing with chronic conditions such as arthritis, asthma, obesity, heart disease, COPD, diabetes, Hepatitis, osteoporosis, Lyme Disease, and other chronic conditions. The series of 6 workshops will be held once per week on Thursdays, beginning May 28th, from 4:45pm to 7:15pm at the Hillsborough Municipal Building. Flagtown: Flagtown residents, members of the Guerrera family, Township officials and the principles of South Branch Estates gathered on Monday, May 4, 2015 to cut the ribbon that opened Flagtown's newest street, Guerrera Court. Named in honor of former Hillsborough Township Mayor John F. Guerrera and Flagtown Postmistress Catherine Guerrera, Guerrera Court leads into South Branch Estates, a development built by North Bridge Properties.
Joined by Hillsborough Township Committeewoman Gloria McCauley and Township Administrator Anthony Ferrera, the ribbon was cut by former Mayor, Bill Jamieson. According to Jamieson, "John was a progressive leader who moved boulders to bring Hillsborough into the 21st century."

John Guerrera has been attributed with initiating and developing the Hillsborough Police department. In 1965 he had the fortitude to create the Hillsborough Municipal Utilities Authority as an independent agency to provide the financing for the development of a sanitary sewer system to protect the public health of the growing community. Guerrera was also a life member of the Flagtown Volunteer Fire Company and was appointed by the Governor as a member of the Somerset County Board of Taxation.
