Traffic Advisory: Norfolk Southern Crossing Upgrades  

On or about April 13th Auten Road will be closed for upgrades to be made to the Norfolk Southern Railroad Crossing.  The closure will be for approximately one week.

On or about April 20th Valley Road will be closed for upgrades.

Please exercise caution when traveling through the area and allow for extra travel time.  Detours will be posted.  

Hillsborough Township Supports Law Enforcement Officers 

Earlier this year, Hillsborough Township Committee passed a resolution in support of the efforts of the men and women who serve as law enforcement officers. Those individuals are routinely called upon to serve and protect the citizens of the community.

Hillsborough Township Honors Auten Road Intermediate School's 2015 Educational Services Professional of the Year Laurie Ferretti  

Hillsborough Township Committee presented a proclamation to Speech and Language Specialist Laurie Ferretti in honor of her recent recognition as Auten Road Intermediate School's Educational Services Professional of the year for 2015.

Hillsborough Township Committee presented a proclamation to Certified School Nurse Ruth Standley in honor of her recent recognition as Woodfern Elementary School's Educational Services Professional of the year for 2015.

Auten Road Facility Access Reminders:  

Hillsborough residents who have obtained a pass for the Auten Road Facility for Saturday, April 11th please read the restrictions carefully (restrictions are as follows and exist to prevent abuse and excessive cost):

  1. Small trailers can be used (2000 lbs. G.v.w. maximum)
  2. No vehicles over 6,700 lbs. G.v.w.
  3. No hazardous/toxic materials (pesticides/chemicals/herbicides)
  4. No recyclables (cardboard/plastic)
  5. No motor oil
  6. No batteries/tires/vehicle parts
  7. No propane tanks
  8. No concrete/blacktop/bricks/pavers
  9. No lumber over 6 feet long and no renovation materials
  10. No tree stumps or logs over 4 inches in diameter
  11. No electronics will be accepted (faxes, tvs/computers/monitors, etc.)
  12. No paint
  13. Freon must be removed from all appliances

The facility is open rain or shine from 7am until 3pm.

Township Dog Canvass (Census) Set to Start May 1st   

New Jersey State Statute Requires All Township Dogs to Have a Valid Dog License

 

"Pursuant to New Jersey Statute, (N.J.S.A. 4:19-15.15), Hillsborough Township must conduct a canvass, also known as a dog census, at least every two years. Hillsborough Township will begin the dog census on or about May 1st," stated Committeewoman Gloria McCauley, Liaison to the Board of Health.

 

"This year the Township will be utilizing Animal Control Officers to conduct the canvass in conjunction with educating our residents about the importance of pet licensing," added Committeewoman McCauley.

More Programs Offered through Hillsborough Recreation Department

  • Field Hockey Clinic: Want to explore a new sport, make friends and have fun while doing it? Are you curious about the sport of field hockey? Girls and boys looking to discover a new team sport are welcome to join!   In a safe and fun environment, participants will be introduced to the sport of field hockey. This clinic is designed for children ages 9-14 years old to learn & develop FUNdamental field hockey skills. Participants will play games, learn skills, make friends and have an awesome time!  The class will be held on Mondays from 5:00pm to 6:00pm beginning April 13.
  • Scrap-U: Let your creativity come alive!  Explore the art of scrapbooking and learn how to make your own scrapbook pages from scratch.  Learn a variety of different scrapbooking techniques that are easy to continue at home.  All supplies included. Each week will be a new fun filled theme. Photos NOT required, each page will have a spots to fill in your photos when you are ready.  No experience necessary.  The class is on Wednesdays from 6:00pm - 7:00pm for 3rd to 5th grades, and 7:00pm - 8:00pm for 6th to 8th graders beginning April 15.

A Free Substance Abuse Prevention Parent Education Program

The 15 Minute Child Break presentation is supported by research which demonstrates that kids who communicate regularly with their parents about their daily activities are 67% less likely to be involved with substance abuse than children who have little or no communication.

Reflexology - April 13 at 7 p.m. @ SCLSNJ Hillsborough Library Program Room B  

Learn what reflexology is and how it differs from massage. We will review techniques that you can use on yourself and for family members and stretches that will rebalance your arms and wrists. Liz Hoffman studied reflexology at the International Institute of Reflexology and has a shiatsu certification from the Ohashi Institute. 

Hillsborough Girl Scouts Cookie Sales Continuing Through April 26th

Girl Scouts in Hillsborough are selling cookies all over town...on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through April 26th.

 

Our service unit sold over 30,000 boxes of cookies this season.  The girls gain so much personally and developmentally by selling, not to mention the financial benefits to the selling troops, enabling the girls to continue to participate in fun and educational activities, support community service endeavors and gain skills and knowledge that they might not get anywhere else.

NY Red Bulls Kickoff 10 Free Youth Soccer Festivals Across NY & NJ  

 

Red Bulls' Hillsborough Event on Saturday, April 18th from 4-6PM 

HARRISON, N.J. - The New York Red Bulls and Hackensack University Medical Center have announced a series of 10 Youth Soccer Festivals across New York and New Jersey, set to kick off in April. The events, geared toward kids ages 7-14, offer participants the opportunity to test their skills at a Skills Challenge, learn tricks from the Red Bulls Street Team, challenge their friends to a 3v3 match, and even meet some New York Red Bull players.

"We're excited to announce these events, and to celebrate soccer with our youth partners in these communities," said Dave Jervis, Director of Red Bulls Training Programs. "Our goal is to create a safe, interactive environment that allows kids a chance to have fun and work with our coaches, who we feel are some of the best youth soccer coaches in the area."

The event is open to the public and free of charge.

Zumba Gold Sessions at Hillsborough Senior Center Beginning on April 20th

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HILLSBOROUGH - Freeholder Brian D. Levine, human services liaison, invites individuals age 60 and above to participate in a new program offering at the Hillsborough Senior Center, located at 339 South Branch Road, starting April 20.

The center will offer an eight-week Zumba Gold session on Mondays, April 20, 27, May 4, 11, 18, June 1, 8 and 15 from 1 to 1:45 p.m.There will be a free demonstration class Monday, April 13 from 1 to 1:45 p.m. The paid eight-week session will begin the following week.

The program fee is $40. Because space is limited, advance registration is required.

Electronics Recycling Fundraiser on Saturday, April 25th @ Woods Road School 

Help Raise Funds While Helping the Environment

Bring your new or old, broken or working electronics to Woods Road School (401 S Woods Rd, Hillsborough Township, NJ 08844) on Saturday April 25th from 9 am to 1 pm rain or shine.  Remember, electronic waste cannot be thrown in the trash, and Somerset County NO LONGER accepts it at the County 1st Saturday-of-the -month Drop-off.

For a suggested donation of $3 to $5 - or give whatever you feel is appropriate, help keep harmful items out of our landfills.  There will be people to unload your items.
