Township Committee Honors Gold Award Recipient Katharine Chen 

Hillsborough Township honored Katharine Chen with a proclamation for achieving her Gold Award.  Her project consisted of working with Hillsborough School District's Teachers of the Deaf, Mrs. Nicholas and Mrs. Mullin's fourth grade class at Sunnymead School raising awareness and educating students about hearing loss.

Township Committee Honors Five Eagle Scouts: Bradley Gluch, Peter Dombrowski, Samuel Romano, Michael Tabernero and Nicholas Tabernero         

Hillsborough Township honored five Eagle Scouts from Troop 1776 with proclamations for earning the prestigious achievement of Eagle Scout.

Bradley Gluch's project was beautifying the Fire House community sign at the Flagtown Fire Company #1 and repainting truck guidelines.  

Peter Dombrowski's project consisted of renovating the courtyard at Woodfern Elementary School and creating an outdoor classroom space.

Samuel Romano's involved creating emergency preparedness training videos and supply kits for the Hillsborough Middle School.

Michael Tabernero's project dealt with making improvements to the grounds at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church.

Nicholas Tabernero's project was refurbishing a four room 18 wheeler for the Hillsborough High School Track Team for storage of their equipment.

Township Committee Passes Resolution Authorizing Agreement Between County and Hillsborough Township for Residential Recycling Pick-up    

No Increase in Per Household Rate for 14th Consecutive Year

Hillsborough's Township Committee passed a resolution authorizing an agreement between Somerset County and Hillsborough Township for residential recycling pick-up representing no increase in the per household rate for the 14th consecutive year.

"Once again, the Freeholders have kept the per-household rate for recycling pickup at $23.85 for the 14th consecutive year," stated Mayor Doug Tomson, upon the consideration of the resolution during the meeting.   
"The Township's participation in the County recycling program reduces waste being added to landfills which is good for the environment", added the Mayor.

Somerset County January Recycling:  Holiday Closing and 'First Saturday' Drop-off     

The Somerset County Recycling Center, located at 40 Polhemus Lane in Bridgewater, will be closed Thursday, Jan. 1, in observance of New Year's Day.
 
Curbside collection for residents of Martinsville-Thomae Park, Warren and Watchung will be Friday, Jan. 2.

Parks & Recreation Open House on January 7th @ 7PM    

You are invited to attend our Parks and Recreation Open House on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 7:00pm at the Hillsborough Municipal Building.  You'll be able to learn about adult volunteer opportunities, meet the Parks and Recreation staff and commission, and learn and ask questions about our programs and leagues.  We hope to see you there!

Winter Recreation Program Registration Ongoing    

It's not too late to join in on the all the fun for winter recreation programs!  Registration is still open for almost all of our winter programs.  Keep your sports skills sharp this winter, or learn a new sport!  We are offering Indoor Soccer for boys and girls in grades 4 to 6, and Volleyball for boys and girls in grades 6 to 8.

Communities, Restaurants, Dealerships Promote 'Be a HERO. Be a Designated DriverŪ'    

The Somerset County Sheriff's Office, Safe Communities Coalition, Empower Somerset and local eating and drinking establishments, as well car dealerships, are promoting designated driving in an effort to keep drunk drivers off the road.

Sheriff Frank J. Provenzano has invited the community at large to support the John R. Elliott HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers aimed at encouraging safe and sober driving during the coming holidays.

Restaurants Big Heads Pub in Hillsborough, Southside Grille & Restaurant in South Bound Brook, Uncle Vinnie's Clam Bar in Raritan, and Wasabi and Verve in Somerville have agreed to promote the HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers to their patrons. Bridgewater Lexus recently joined the campaign to support the initiative and is handing out HERO Campaign brochures and magnets.
