Mayor Doug Tomson and the Hillsborough Township Committee wish everyone a Happy Chanukah and Merry Christmas!           

Holiday Hours for the Municipal Departments and the Library:            

*    The Building Department and the Health Office /    Office of the Registrar will not have evening hours on Tuesday, December 23rd.
*    Municipal Offices will be closed on Wednesday, December 24th and Thursday, December 25th in observance of Christmas.
*    Hillsborough Library Holiday Schedule:
Wednesday, December 24 - CLOSED
Thursday, December 25 - CLOSED
Friday, December 26 and Saturday, December 27 - Open from 9:30 am to 5 pm
Sunday, December 28 - Open from 1 pm to 5 pm.
Wednesday, December 31 - CLOSED
Thursday, January 1 - CLOSED

Giant Menorah Lighting 

The Chabad Center for Jewish Life hosted the First Night of Chanukah at the Annual Menorah Lighting and Chanukah Extravaganza at the Hillsborough Municipal Complex this past Tuesday.  Mayor Doug Tomson and Committeewoman Gloria McCauley were on hand to welcome the crowd and wish everyone a joyous holiday.  After the lighting of the Menorah, the festivities moved inside where there were crafts, latkes and donuts, games and music.  This event was sponsored by Rabbi Krinsky and the Chabad Center for Jewish Life.

Township Recognizes Hillsborough High School Gymnastics Team          

The Hillsborough High School Gymnastics Team were recognized at a Township Committee Meeting last month with a proclamation for their successful season and an undefeated record of 9-0.  The team captured the following titles:  2014 Skyland Conference Regular Season Title, 2014 Somerset County Champions, 2014 Skyland Conference Champions and the 2014 Central II Sectional Champions.

The Nick Magos Cancer Callout 2014 Event - Biggest One Yet    

Earlier this month Deputy Mayor Greg Burchette the Nick Magos Cancer Callout recipients for the 2014 gift check presentation.  The event, which began in 2011, awards gift checks to families of cancer victims.  The group raised over $30,000 in 2014 and awarded funds to 6 different families.  The Nick Magos Cancer Callout group is comprised of SWAT, Medics, CNT, Hillsborough Police and Fire Departments.

2015 Senior Chapter "B" Swears in New Officers    

Township Clerk Pamela Borek conducted the swearing in ceremony earlier this month for the new Officers for Senior Chapter "B" at their annual Holiday Luncheon.  Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli and Township Administrator Anthony Ferrera also attended the ceremony.  Outgoing Co-Presidents Nancy and Ed Bertin were presented a gift from the group for their service.

Holiday Safety Tips    

Communities, Restaurants, Dealerships Promote 'Be a HERO. Be a Designated DriverŪ'    

The Somerset County Sheriff's Office, Safe Communities Coalition, Empower Somerset and local eating and drinking establishments, as well car dealerships, are promoting designated driving in an effort to keep drunk drivers off the road.

Sheriff Frank J. Provenzano has invited the community at large to support the John R. Elliott HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers aimed at encouraging safe and sober driving during the coming holidays.

Restaurants Big Heads Pub in Hillsborough, Southside Grille & Restaurant in South Bound Brook, Uncle Vinnie's Clam Bar in Raritan, and Wasabi and Verve in Somerville have agreed to promote the HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers to their patrons. Bridgewater Lexus recently joined the campaign to support the initiative and is handing out HERO Campaign brochures and magnets.

The Somerset County Commission on the Status of Women is seeking nominations for its 2015 Outstanding Women in Somerset County awards program.

"We have many women in Somerset County doing amazing things every day," said Freeholder Patricia Walsh, commission liaison. "It is most appropriate that during Women's History Month, we take the time to publicly recognize them and say thank you."
