Hillsborough Township is Recognized for Implementing a "Complete Streets Policy"

Policy Fosters Hillsborough's Sustainable Community Initiative by Providing Safe Access to Roadways for Residents pursuing an Active Lifestyle

Hillsborough Township was recently recognized by Healthier Somerset for committing to create and implement a Complete Streets Policy, enabling safe access to all road users including pedestrians, bicyclists, transit vehicles and motorists. A Complete Street is defined as a means to provide safe access for all users by designing and operating a comprehensive, integrated, connected multi-modal network of transportation options.

"As the Hillsborough Community continues to grow, it is important to ensure multi-modal, safe access throughout the Township," stated Mayor Doug Tomson.

Serena Collado, Director of Community Health, RWJUH Somerset, commented, "Hillsborough Township's support of New Jersey Department of Transportation's Complete Streets initiative shows its commitment to health and wellness. By enacting resolutions to adopt Complete Streets, Hillsborough fosters safe roadways for vehicles and pedestrians while creating an environment for active lifestyles in which pedestrians may walk, run or bike.

"RideWise TMA is proud to recognize the efforts Hillsborough has made in adopting the 4th Complete Streets Policy in Somerset County, NJ. Complete Streets ensure that when roads are constructed, or rebuilt, they are designed and operated to enable safe access for all users. The ability for pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and transit riders of all ages and abilities to move safely along and across a Complete Street should be the goal of every municipality. Hillsborough residents should be proud of the commitment their town has made toward creating safer streets for everyone," Linda Rapacki, RideWise TMA Marketing Manager.
