School Back in Session Reminder From Hillsborough Police Department
|
The Hillsborough Police Department reminds everyone that school is back in session, which will mean increased pedestrian traffic as some students walk to school and increased bus traffic. Please be alert to flashing lights on stopped buses as children are entering and exiting the buses. Passing a stopped bus with warning lights activate can result in a 5 point violation and substantial fines. The Police Department will be monitoring school bus stops and active school zones throughout the school year. Motorists should allow for extra travel time and anticipate increased volume around school facilities.

News from the Hillsborough Township Construction Department
We receive daily inquiries from home owners, real estate agents, attorneys and title companies requesting information on how to obtain a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) in order to complete the transaction of a home sale. There are municipalities in the State of New Jersey, by order of a locally imposed ordinance, which do require the issuance of a C of O each time a residential home is sold, has a title transfer or is rented. The State of New Jersey does not mandate this and leaves such a requirement up to the jurisdiction of the municipality where the property is located, N.J.S.A. 52:27D-198.2 et seq. Hillsborough Township has not adopted any such ordinance and therefore, does not require or issue a Certificate of Occupancy or Certificate of Continuing Occupancy (CCO) for the resale, transfer of title or rental of a residential dwelling. Hillsborough Township Building Department, as mandated by the State of New Jersey, N.J.S.A. 52:27D-133 et seq., does issue a C of O at the time construction of the dwelling was completed and after final inspections were passed. Hillsborough Township, as mandated by the State of New Jersey, N.J.S.A. 52:27D-198.1 et seq., does however require the owner of the property to obtain a Certificate of Smoke Detector, Carbon Monoxide Detector and Fire Extinguisher prior to a residential property transaction. For complete details, please contact the Hillsborough Township Fire District, Bureau of Fire Safety (908) 369-4313, ext. 7178 or by visiting their website: www.hillsboroughfiresafety.com.
