Township Committee Honors RoboRaiders with Proclamations 

The Hillsborough High School RoboRaiders recently attended a Township Committee meeting to receive a proclamation for their recent competitions.

Team 75 was awarded the Engineering Inspiration Award, winning the robot portion of the competition.  They also won the Champion's Award and the Chairman's award.

Mayor Tomson Visits Recreation Summer Camps            


Mayor Doug Tomson visited the Hillsborough Recreation Summer Camps last week. He had the opportunity to meet with the campers, answer their questions about being Mayor and participated in various activities.

Extended Camp: The Parks and Recreation Department is offering a Two-Week Extended Camp

Extended Summer Camp will run from August 18 to 29 at the Auten Road School.  The camp is open to children ages 5 to 14 and will be held at the the Auten Road School.  Campers will participate in games, recreational play, arts and crafts, and much more!  Registration and more information is available on the Parks & Recreation Website.

6th Annual Music Festival to be Held on Saturday, August 9th    

The Hillsborough Cultural Arts Commission along with The Allegra School of Music and Arts is co-sponsoring the 6th Annual Music Festival on Saturday, August 9th.  The event will be held once again at the Hillsborough Promenade, 315 US Route 206 from 2-10pm.

"This is a great community event to benefit both BOROSAFE and the Jonah Johnson Youth Scholarship Fund," stated Committeeman Frank DelCore also Liaison to the Cultural Arts Commission.

Fall Soccer Leagues Registration Remains Open through August 10th        

Registration for the Fall Recreation Soccer League is ongoing through August 10th.  Leagues are formed for children entering Kindergarten through 12th grade.  There is also Pee Wee soccer, for children ages 3 and 4 at the start of the program.  Games are held on Saturdays.  Practices for grades 3-12 will be during the week.

Hillsborough Township Hosting First Senior Olympics to be Held September 24th         

(Rain date October 1st)

Hillsborough Township will be holding the first ever 'Senior Olympics' early this fall.   "We are excited to announce the Olympic Torch is coming to Hillsborough for our very own Senior Olympics," announced Mayor Doug Tomson.

The Hillsborough Township Senior Olympics will be held on Wednesday, September 24th, with a rain date of October 1st, from 11am until 3pm at the Ann Van Middlesworth Park.  This Township sponsored event is open to all Hillsborough Senior Citizens.

The day's events include a walk around the park, softball pitch, bean bag toss, basketball court games, pickle ball and a round of bocci ball and horseshoes.  Medals will be awarded to the winners of the various competitions.

NJ350 Elements Offers an Outdoor Photography Experience at Duke Farms 

  • Exhibit: August 1 - September 2, 2014
  • Reception: Friday, August 8, 6-8 pm 

Hillsborough residents were selected to participate in "NJ350 Elements" unique photo experience from photographers throughout the state. What makes this exhibit different is the idea of representing the environment within the environment. Images of New Jersey's nature and wildlife are on display outdoors on large 40"h x 60"w water-resistant satin fabric, illuminated by natural light, moving with the elements.

Somerset Patriots to Honor Veterans at Ballpark on

Sunday, August 10th         

Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots, along with the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 452, will honor veterans and current military members before the Patriots game on Sunday, August 10, with gates opening at 4:00 pm at TD Bank Ballpark.
 
The Patriots will welcome United States Armed Forces veterans and active Marines and soldiers to the ballpark. All veterans in attendance will be recognized for their courage and service to the United States.
 
The ceremony will feature a special Honor Guard from Vietnam Veterans of America- Chapter 233 Metuchen and The Rifle Squad from the Marine Corps League Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone Detachment, a rifle salute, and Echo Taps. There will also a reenactment of the flag-raising on Iwo Jima by Marines who have just returned from Iraq.

The Hillsborough Rotary Fair, August 12th-17th  

Rotary Club of Hillsborough Family Fun Day For Local Special Needs and Autistic Community on Saturday, August 16th From 2-4PM
 
The Rotary Club of Hillsborough is hosting its second annual Family Fun Day at its annual Fair on Saturday exclusively for the local Special Needs and Autistic Community (SNAC). The Fair, located in the Hillsborough Promenade, is open to the public from Tuesday through Sunday, beginning on August 12, but on Saturday it will open early from 2 to 4 p.m. for special needs, autistic children and their families.

During the Family Fun Day for local special needs and autistic community, the fair atmosphere is modified to help provide an enjoyable experience for the special attendees. Loud noises and flashing lights normally associated with fairs are reduced, and unlimited access is provided to the rides and carnival games. The Family Fun Day is totally free to attendees and their families.

The Rotary Club of Hillsborough, which holds its dinner meetings every Wednesday night at 6:15 p.m. at Pheasants Landing Restaurant, thanks all of the sponsors, donors and participants for making this a fun and memorable event for everyone involved. Hillsborough Public Library Special Presentation: Combat Paper NJ on Tuesday,
August 12th at 7PM      
 
In 2011, the Printmaking Center of New Jersey (PCNJ) developed and launched Combat Paper NJ, a ground-breaking program which uses the art of handmade papermaking to help veterans explore the physical, psychological and emotional effects of war.

Join us as veteran James Yee shares his emotional journey and shows us how veterans integrate drawings, photographs, words and iconic images into their art using silkscreen, pulp spray and other printmaking techniques they are taught.

Feeding a Stray? Neuter or Spray!        

St. Hubert's is offering low-cost spay/neuter vouchers at $25 for Hillsborough and Branchburg residents (while supplies last). Vouchers can be purchased for $50 by residents of other municipalities for which St. Hubert's is contracted to provide animal control services.

The spay/neuter voucher covers the spay/neuter procedure, rabies vaccine, microchip and an eartip for any outdoor cat who relies on you for care.

Vouchers are valid for one month after purchase and can be redeemed only at Round Valley Animal Hospital, Planned Pethood or Bell Mead Animal Hospital.
