Privately Funded Biondi Sign Placed at Bypass

 Late last year the first phase of the Biondi Bypass was opened by Governor Christie and earlier this year private supporters raised the necessary funds to ensure a sign memorializing the late Assemblyman's Legacy. Mayor Doug Tomson was joined by Mrs. Joan Biondi, the late Assemblyman's wife, Deputy Mayor Greg Burchette and Committeewoman Gloria McCauley to unveil the signs.

Hillsborough Township Honors High School Varsity Baseball Team

 The Hillsborough High School Boys Varsity Volleyball Team recently attended a Township Committee meeting to receive a proclamation from the Mayor and Township Committee in honor of their successful season. The team captured their 6th Skylands Conference Championship Title in the last 7 years. Congratulations Team on a fantastic season! Hillsborough Township Hosting First Senior Olympics to be Held September 24th
|
(Rain date October 1st)Hillsborough Township will be holding the first ever 'Senior Olympics' early this fall. "We are excited to announce the Olympic Torch is coming to Hillsborough for our very own Senior Olympics," announced Mayor Doug Tomson. The Hillsborough Township Senior Olympics will be held on Wednesday, September 24th, with a rain date of October 1st, from 11am until 3pm at the Ann Van Middlesworth Park. This Township sponsored event is open to all Hillsborough Senior Citizens. The day's events include a walk around the park, softball pitch, bean bag toss, basketball court games, pickle ball and a round of bocci ball and horseshoes. Hillsborough Township Announces Register Ready Program to Assist First Responders

 At Tuesday's Township Committee meeting, Committeewoman Gloria McCauley, Liaison to Public Safety announced that "Register Ready is a Special Needs Registry designed to help first responders locate and safely evacuate people who find it difficult to help themselves in the event of an emergency". Register Ready is a free, voluntary and confidential service. Hillsborough residents can register via the Register Ready website at www.registerready.nj.gov, by dialing 211 which is toll free or by obtaining forms from the Hillsborough Township Office of Emergency Management located at Hillsborough Township Police Department Headquarters or from the Social Services Department. Those residents who may find it difficult to get to a public shelter or to family and friends during an emergency evacuation because of physical or cognitive limitations, language barrier or lack of transportation are encouraged to register. "Keeping all residents safe during times of crisis is a top concern for the Township. Registering through Register Ready is another mechanism to facilitate that safety," concluded Committeewoman Gloria McCauley.

Hillsborough to Bring Back the "Town Calendar"

Mayor Doug Tomson, at Tuesday's Township Committee meeting, announced that the "Hillsborough Town Calendar is coming back".
"The Township is working with Town Planner Calendar to produce a 2015 printed calendar which will be mailed out to every residence in Hillsborough, at no cost to our taxpayers. Funding is via the advertisements contained within the calendar," stated Mayor Tomson.
The calendar, which will be mailed out in December of 2014, will include various schedules for the coming year as well as Hillsborough landscape and scenery photography.
Individuals interested in submitting photographs for consideration can email their high resolution image to the Township Clerk at pborek@hillsborough-nj.org. A photo release will need to accompany the pictures and there is no guarantee that the photo will be used.
Hillsborough hasn't seen the Town Calendar for quite a few years. "This is a great opportunity to promote local businesses and enjoy our local scenery all year long," added the Mayor.

Hillsborough Township to be designated a Purple Heart Community
|
First Municipality in Somerset County"Hillsborough Township will be designated as a Purple Heart Community at a Ceremony on August 7, 2014," announced Mayor Doug Tomson at Tuesday's Township Committee Meeting. The ceremony is set to begin at 6:30pm at the Garden of Honor at the Hillsborough Township Municipal Complex and will be held rain or shine. Light refreshments will follow the ceremony and sign dedication. "We are honored to be the first municipality in Somerset County to be designated a 'Purple Heart Community", added Mayor Tomson during his remarks at the meeting. A proclamation will be presented to the Military Order of the Purple Heart at the August 12, 2014 Township Community meeting. The Purple Heart, the most recognized medal of the armed forces, is awarded to those serving in the armed forces that are injured or killed while serving in combat. It was originally introduced by George Washington as the Badge of Military Merit in 1782. It is the oldest military award given to U.S. military members. For more information, click here...

6th Annual Music Festival to be Held Saturday, August 9th

 The Hillsborough Cultural Arts Commission along with The Allegra School of Music and Arts is co-sponsoring the 6th Annual Music Festival on Saturday, August 9th. The event will be held once again at the Hillsborough Promenade, 315 US Route 206 from 2-10pm. "This is a great community event to benefit both BOROSAFE and the Jonah Johnson Youth Scholarship Fund," stated Committeeman Frank DelCore also Liaison to the Cultural Arts Commission. The festival will feature local bands, dancers, rappers, singers, fine artists, crafters and food. Volunteer opportunities are available for community service hours as well. Rotary Club of Hillsborough Hosts a Family Fun Day For Local Special Needs and Autistic Community

 The Rotary Club of Hillsborough is hosting the second annual Family Fun Day at its annual Fair on Saturday exclusively for the local Special Needs and Autistic Community (SNAC). The Fair, located in the Hillsborough Promenade, is open to the public from Tuesday through Sunday, beginning on August 12, but on Saturday it will open early from 2 to 4 p.m. for special needs, autistic children and their families. The Fair atmosphere is modified to help provide an enjoyable experience for the special attendees. Loud noises and flashing lights normally associated with fairs are reduced, and unlimited access is provided to the rides and carnival games. The Family Fun Day is totally free to attendees and their families. The Rotary Club of Hillsborough, which holds its dinner meetings every Wednesday night at 6:15 p.m. at Pheasants Landing Restaurant, thanks all of the sponsors, donors and participants for making this a fun and memorable event for everyone involved.
