Hillsborough Rescue Squad and Hillsborough High School recognized by American Heart Association

The American Heart Association recently recognized the Hillsborough Rescue Squad and Hillsborough High School for partnering together to train students in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

The American Heart Association presented the two groups with a New Jersey American HeartSaver Award for helping strengthening the Chain of Survival, commending the unique program in which the organizations partner together to train every 11th grade student-nearly 600 students annually-in CPR.

Each year, more than 420,000 out-of-hospitals cardiac arrests occur in the United States. According to the American Heart Association, approximately 90% of those who suffer out-of-hospital cardiac arrests don't survive. The act of CPR, especially if performed immediately, can double or even triple a cardiac arrest victim's chance of survival. Yet, only 32 percent of cardiac arrest victims get CPR from a bystander.
