Hillsborough Township Recognizes Long Time Businesses and Organizations
The vitality of Hillsborough is based upon multiple factors; one being the composition of the business and non-profit community that call Hillsborough Township their home. Mayor Doug Tomson announced a new recognition program at a recent Township Committee meeting in which local organizations with over 25 years of operation within Hillsborough Township will be recognized over the coming months. "It is an honor to recognize those organizations that have been here in town for so many years. The Recognition Program was created for the purpose of giving formal recognition to those Hillsborough organizations that have contributed to the economic well being of the Township and have demonstrated a long term commitment here," commented Mayor Tomson during the presentation. Going forward at each Township Committee meeting organizations will be invited to attend to receive their certificates of recognition. "The list is long, which is a good thing. When you get the call from my office about coming to a meeting, now you will know what it is about. Be patient, we will get everyone in. If you are not registered on the EBDC website, please call my office directly to be put on the recognition list," concluded the Mayor. Calling Volunteers for CERT
Register with Office of Emergency Management CERT, Community Emergency Response Team, is an all-hazard, all-risk training program designed to teach volunteers how to protect themselves, their families, their neighbors and their communities during a disaster situation. CERT training promotes a partnership between emergency services and the community. Mayor Doug Tomson announced at a recent Township Committee meeting that "Hillsborough is looking for those individuals interested in becoming trained for CERT to register on the OEM website." "We have depended a great deal on our CERT volunteers in the past during hurricanes, weather occurrences as well as other community events, not just in Hillsborough but also in Somerset County. We are looking to increase the membership of the Hillsborough-based CERT team. The process would be to determine the level of interest from the public and we will then move forward with training initiatives," stated Committeewoman Gloria McCauley, Liaison to Public Safety. Interested residents can email the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) from their website at www.hillsboroughoem.org and in the comments section write "CERT".

'First Saturday of the Month' Drop-off July 12
Somerset County Freeholder Patricia Walsh, recycling liaison, invites Somerset County residents to take advantage of the next First Saturday of the Month Drop-off event on July 12 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Somerset County Recycling Center, located at 40 Polhemus Lane, Bridgewater, NJ 08807, to clean up around their homes. July's First Saturday is being held the following week due to the Independence Day holiday. First Saturday drop-off events enable busy residents to recycle tires, clean textiles and usual curbside items in one fell swoop, as well as help people in the community who are less fortunate by donating food items for a local food bank. As part of the program, residents can drop off up to eight tires - with or without rims, scrap metal, used motor oil, oil filters, antifreeze and usual curbside materials, including chipboard items and plastic bottles and containers, marked #1 through #7. Chipboard includes gift, shoe, shirt and all retail boxes, as well as cereal, cookie, pasta, cake and cracker boxes, without the plastic liners. Also poster board, backing from writing pads and empty, dried-out steel paint cans are accepted. Textiles (clean and dry) include drapes, curtains, sheets, towels, belts, handbags, shoes (pairs), clean cloth and small stuffed animals. Textiles only will be accepted in a plastic bag.
