Hillsborough Adopts 2014 Municipal Budget

Maintains Budget Under Cap Levy for 4th Consecutive Year

Hillsborough Township adopted the 2014 municipal budget at Tuesday's Township Committee meeting, which as discussed when it was introduced, came in under the 2% levy cap for the 4th year in a row.  The 2% levy cap was introduced in 2011 and Hillsborough's budget has come in under every year since that new legislation.  The $27,870,408 municipal budget results in a $0.014 per $100 of assessed value municipal tax rate change.

"As I stated when we introduced this budget, it continues our business-like fiscally responsible approach to the governing of Hillsborough Township.  Achieving a balanced budget, while continuing the level of services our residents are accustomed to is never an easy task, however once again we are adopting a thoughtful and balanced budget and one that holds to the 2008 spending levels.  It is becoming increasingly evident that the Township is delivering more with less," stated Mayor Doug Tomson during his remarks after the 2014 Budget presentation by CFO Nancy Costa.

DEP Reminds Boaters to Think Green and be Cautious When Boating In Ecologically Sensitive Areas In Barnegat Bay

As we approach the summer boating and tourism season, the Department of Environmental Protection is asking boaters to help our environment by using caution in ecologically sensitive areas while having fun boating on Barnegat Bay, and also using similar restraint when boating in other important ecological areas throughout the state.

One key facet of Governor Christie's Comprehensive Barnegat Bay Restoration plan calls for reducing impacts of boats and personal watercraft on the Bay's sensitive ecosystems, including wetlands, aquatic vegetation, shellfish beds and fish habitats.

"The DEP identified these unique areas so that users of the estuary can minimize their impact on the plants and animals that reside there,'' said Commissioner Bob Martin. "Barnegat Bay is an environmental treasure that offers great recreational opportunities but also is a sensitive estuarine system that contains important natural resources. We ask for your help in protecting these resources.''

JCP&L Completes Inspections and Projects Prior to Summer Season to Help Enhance Customer Service Reliability

With the upcoming hot summer months expected to produce higher electric demand, Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) has completed numerous projects and inspections across its 13-county service area that are intended to enhance service reliability.  The work included upgrading transmission and substation equipment, upgrading circuits and modernizing distribution equipment, and trimming trees along nearly 1,500 miles of distribution and transmission lines.

"Our annual planning and analysis includes system upgrades and repairs targeted to enhance reliability to benefit our customers prior to the start of the summer season," said James Fakult, president of JCP&L.  "The work completed to date increases the reliability and resiliency of our system for the summer months when customers use more electricity and allows for future load growth."

Helicopter patrols are completing inspections on more than 750 miles of transmission lines located in the JCP&L area.  The inspections are designed to look for damaged wire, broken cross arms, failed insulators, and other hardware problems not easily detected from the ground.  Any potential reliability issues identified during the inspection will be addressed immediately.
