Hillsborough Girl Scout Troops Partner with Jump Zone to offer 'Boro Parents a Night Out on the Town!

Girl Scout Cadette troops 60261 and 60367 are offering parents a wonderful opportunity to enjoy an evening on their own by sponsoring a "Parents Night Out" babysitting event.  Parents can drop off their toilet trained 4-9 year olds at 6pm on Saturday March 22nd at Jump Zone, 6 Jill Court in Hillsborough for a night of supervised fun.  The Cadettes - all 7th & 8th Graders at Hillsborough Middle School - will keep the kids busy with jumping, a pizza party, coloring and games, and even a quiet room for the little ones who need a break from the festivities.   This is the first Girl Scout/Jump Zone collaboration and both organizations hope for a great success.  The cost of the event is $25 for the first child in a family, and $20 for each additional child.  "Both troops are trying to raise money to support our silver award projects, and since we are all new babysitters it seemed like a great way to combine the two, and have a fun night playing with kids", notes Girl Scout Brynne Briegs.  For more information or registration email gsparentsniteout@gmail.com

One-Seat Ride Debuts on the Raritan Valley Line

Somerset County Freeholder Peter S. Palmer, who also chairs the Raritan Valley Rail Coalition, was among those boarding the first one-seat ride train leaving the Raritan Borough station for New York on March 3. The train departed from the Raritan station at 8:43 a.m. and arrived at New York's Penn Station at 10:09 a.m.

"This is the culmination of 15 years of effort by the Rail Coalition, county and local officials and stakeholders all along the Raritan Valley Line," Freeholder Palmer said.  "I was thrilled to be part of this maiden voyage to celebrate the launch of off-peak direct service to Manhattan."

He was joined by Rail Coalition Vice-Chairman Tom Jardim and Hunterdon County Freeholder Matthew Holt, as well as Somerset County Planner Kenneth Wedeen, who serves as the coalition's staff support.

NJ Transit has purchased dual-mode locomotives that will operate as diesels through Hunterdon, Somerset, Middlesex and Union counties and as electric locomotives through the tunnel to Manhattan, making the one-seat ride possible.  Ten trains will be part of the pilot program.

The Raritan Valley Rail Coalition, joined by a coalition of 30 mayors of towns along the line, seeks to ultimately achieve a full one-seat ride Manhattan service on the Raritan Valley Line, so that riders do not have to change trains in Newark.

For departure times from the High Bridge, Raritan and other stations going eastbound, and from Penn Station going westbound, visit http://bit.ly/OneSeatRide

Providing Help & Hope...One Cell Phone at a Time

The Resource Center of Somerset invites you to help make a difference in the lives of domestic violence victims by providing Help and Hope...one cell phone at a time.  Donating your used cell phone will help provide services to victims of domestic abuse - women, men and children, free of charge.

Many Somerset County residents, as well as people throughout New Jersey, are significantly impacted by domestic violence.   They endure countless indignities and assaults that transcend the physical aspect of abuse.  The Resource Center of Somerset is a non-profit organization exclusively dedicated to serving those whose lives have been impacted by domestic violence. Our mission is to end domestic abuse and empower victims by providing protection, education and resources.

Our services include: a 24-hour hotline (866-685-1122), emergency shelter, transitional housing, legal advocacy, individual and group counseling, case management, children services, domestic violence response teams and community education.

With your help we can make a difference in the lives of the thousands of people in Somerset County who are touched by domestic violence annually by providing a safe, supportive and empowering environment that promotes healing and assists individuals as they engage in their journey from victims to survivors. The greater number of used cell phones we collect, the more we can do to help those who reach out to us.

JCP&L Offers Outage Reporting on Facebook and Adds Crew Status to Outage Maps

Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) is making it easier for customers to report outages and check the progress of service restoration efforts. JCP&L is the first investor-owned electric utility in New Jersey to offer an outage reporting app on Facebook. Customers who visit the company's award-winning Facebook page at www.facebook.com/JCPandL can use the new "Report an Outage" tab to let the company know about a power disruption. The app is integrated with the company's automated reporting system to help ensure that outages are quickly and accurately recorded.

In addition, customers can now view the status of crews restoring service after a power outage on the company's 24/7 Power Center outage map. This enhancement lets customers know when crews have been dispatched, when they are working on a repair, and when additional crews or equipment are needed to complete restoration work. This information is also provided through JCP&L's web-based outage information, and its text messaging and alert services.

"We work continuously to improve the experience for our customers on two fronts: strengthening and enhancing service reliability, and making it easier for customers to connect with us and get the information they need if they do experience a power outage," said Jim Fakult, president of JCP&L.
