Weather Advisory

Due to the anticipated rain forecast coupled with milder temperatures there exists the possibility of increased fog and run off from the melting snow.   Here are a few reminders to remain safe during the changing weather:
*    Do not drive through water covered roadways nor around barricades
*    Dig out your sump pump returns
*    Assist DPW and clear storm grates
Depending on temperatures overnight, there is the possibility of the melting snow and rain to refreeze and become ice.  Please exercise caution when travelling.

$1.1M in Grant Funds Received for Open Space Purchase

Hillsborough Township entered into a real estate transaction with P.I.D. Associates in the 4th quarter of 2012, to purchase a parcel of land, consisting of 237 acres to be added to the Open Space coffers.  The property, along East Mountain Road extending to Mill Lane, is in an area where there is other preserved land.

The initial funding for this purchase was appropriated $3,082,000 from the Open Space Trust Fund via Ordinance 2012-13.

"I am pleased to announce that we have received $1,182,461 in reimbursement from Green Acres towards the purchase of this property," announced Committeeman Frank DelCore, Liaison to the Open Space Advisory Committee.

The cost per acre was $13,004, which is historically much lower than previous purchases in the area. The Mill Lane area has been targeted in years past for extensive residential development.

"We will continue to explore thoughtful opportunities to continue land preservation," concluded Committeeman DelCore.

Township Partners with YMCA for Senior Programs

The Township Committee took action to memorialize an agreement between the Township and the YMCA in order to offer the participants in the Senior Exercise Program improved exercise programs and services.

"Our Seniors are very important to us," stated Mayor Doug Tomson at Tuesday's meeting, when discussing the agreement, "and as such, it was only fitting to partner with the YMCA so that we would be able to offer supplemental benefits to those participating in the Township's Senior Exercise Program.

The Mayor assured the public that the regular Senior Exercise classes would remain at the Municipal Complex, but through this partnership with the YMCA there would be many other benefits that the participants would be able to take advantage of.

"I am also happy to report that this partnership and all of the enhanced benefits available to the participants comes at no increase in expense to our taxpayers," concluded Mayor Tomson.
