Recycling Calendar: 'First Saturday,' Tire Drop-off

First Saturday of the Month' Drop-off

Somerset County residents can take advantage of the next First Saturday of the Month Drop-off event to clean up around their homes on Dec. 7 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Somerset County Recycling Center, located at 40 Polhemus Lane, Bridgewater, N.J. 08807.

First Saturday drop-off events enable busy residents to recycle tires, clean textiles and usual curbside items in one fell swoop, as well as help people in the community who are less fortunate by donating food items for a local food bank.

As part of the program, residents can drop off up to eight tires - with or without rims, scrap metal, used motor oil, oil filters, antifreeze and usual curbside materials, including chipboard items and plastic bottles and containers, marked #1 through #7.  Chipboard includes gift, shoe, shirt and all retail boxes, as well as cereal, cookie, pasta, cake and cracker boxes, without the plastic liners.  Also poster board, backing from writing pads and empty, dried-out steel paint cans are accepted.

Hillsborough Township to Host Community Blood Drive and Family and Friends Adult CPR Class

All Participants Entered in Drawing to Win Super Bowl Tickets

This event will take place on Thursday, December 12th from 3-7 p.m. at the Peter J. Biondi Building located at 379 South Branch Road. All donors will be entered to win a pair of tickets to the 2014 Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium. Hillsborough Rescue Squad is providing the Adult Family and Friends CPR Class.

The drive will be conducted by Somerset Medical Center as part of the hospital's new mobile blood collection program. This event is a special opportunity for neighbors to help neighbors; all blood collected at the drive will stay within the community to be used by patients at Somerset Medical Center. Each pint of blood carries the potential to save two lives.

The blood donation process is safe, efficient and takes approximately 45 minutes. Donors must be at least 17 years old and weigh 110 lbs. (Donors who are 16 may donate with parental consent and need to weigh at least 120 lbs.) Appointments are encouraged and can be made by calling Pam Borek at 908-369-8314 or pborek@hillsborough-nj.org
