Hillsborough Township Awarded Sustainable Jersey Grants   

Committeewoman Gloria McCauley recently announced at Tuesday's Township Committee meeting that Hillsborough Township has been awarded a Sustainable Jersey Capacity-Building Grant. The $2,000 grants are intended to assist community Green Teams as they lead and coordinate the sustainability activities of their community. The 2013 Sustainable Jersey Small Grants Program funded by the Walmart is providing $380,000 in grants to local governments for sustainability projects.

 

"Thank you to all those individuals responsible, including Planing & Zoning Deputy Director David Kois; these funds will be used to further our commitment to sustainability in Hillsborough", stated Mayor Frank DelCore.

 

"These funds will be used towards helping the Township reach Silver Certification in 2014 in the areas of the canopy goal, community gardens and the buy local campaign," stated Committeewoman Gloria McCauley.

Hillsborough Township Goes Red 

The Hillsborough Township Committee declared October 23rd through October 31st, 2013 as Red Ribbon Week and encourages the citizens of Hillsborough to participate in drug prevention activities making it visible that we are strongly committed to a drug free community.  Furthermore, the Township Committee commits its resources to ensure the success of the Red Ribbon Campaign and its theme, "A Healthy Me Is Drug Free!"

Township Committee Declared October 10, 2013 as Put The Brakes on Fatalities Day

The Township Committee declared October 10, 2013 as Put the Brakes on Fatalities DayŽ to emphasize the importance of safe driving and to improve roadway safety in the community and in the state.  Furthermore, this day also highlights safe driving behaviors that everyone should practice like buckling up, obeying posted speed limits, stopping for pedestrians and so on.

In New Jersey, 589 individuals lost their lives in traffic crashes in 2012 and alcohol-related crashes accounted for 27 percent of the State's traffic fatalities, while 26 percent of all fatal crashes involved traveling at unsafe speeds.

The Red Ribbon Week Committee, the Mayor's Wellness Committee and the Hillsborough/Millstone Municipal Alliance Present: FAMILY FUN NIGHT!

Join the Mayor's Wellness Team at the Central Jersey Heart Walk

Township residents are invited to sign up for the annual Central Jersey Heart Walk!  Signing up for the Heart Walk is a great way to support groundbreaking pediatric heart and stroke research that can save lives.  The Heart Walk is on October 20, 2013 at 8:00 AM in Johnson Park River Road & Violet Drive Piscataway, NJ. 08854.

Children's Halloween Party on Thursday, October 24th 

Thursday, October 24th 4:30-6:30pm in the Municipal Building $5.00 per child with pre-registration required. The night will consist of a Haunted House, Hayride, and Pumpkin Picking.

Safe Coalition Presents: Town Hall Meeting "From Pills to Heroin" The Domino Effect on Monday, October 21st 

View the Documentary "From Pills to Heroin" and have an interactive discussion with a panel of experts, law enforcement, community members, and film participants, who will address the issue of Heroin in Somerset County.

This will take place Monday, October 21st 7pm-8pm at the Somerset Valley YMCA, 2 Green Street Somerville, NJ 08876

Cub Scout Pack 1776 is currently accepting any and all old flags that need to be retired. This is a community service project for the Neshanic and Hillsborough communities as well as an opportunity to teach the boys about the American flag. Rx Drive-Thru Medicine Drop-off to Be Held October 26th in Hillsborough

HILLSBOROUGH - Somerset County Sheriff Frank J. Provenzano invites county residents to take advantage of an opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted or outdated prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications.

A special collection will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the South County Public Works Garage, located at 410 Roycefield Rd., Hillsborough, N.J. 08844.  The Rx drop-off is being held in conjunction with a scheduled Somerset County Household Hazardous Waste drop-off event. This is a rain or shine event.

Medications should be dropped off in their original packages or bottles with personal information such as name and address removed.  The name of the medication should be visible. Illegal drugs, needles or sharps should not be brought to the drop-off.

Duke Farms Halloween Hike on Saturday, October 26th 

Join us for a festive night of family-friendly activities!!!

Some of Duke Farms' "scariest" residents will be found along a 1.5 mile trail where they will explain why they are actually good for the environment and why you shouldn't really be scared of them at all. Visit with some poison ivy, a bat, a skunk, a dead tree, a wasp and others as you collect good-for-you treats along the way.

Date & Time: October 26 @ 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Bring a bag for your candy-free treats, costumes welcome but not required.

Hillsborough Soccer Club & Hillsborough Food Bank Community Assistance Network are having a Food Drive on Sunday, October 27, 2013 Please show your support for our community AND our teams on Sunday, October 27 by donating canned and non-perishable items.

Two collection boxes will be on the soccer fields at: Municipal Fields - 379 South Branch Rd.- from 12 noon until 4:00 pm South Woods Road Soccer Complex - 560 South Woods Rd. from 10:30 am until 5:00 pm
