Township Communication Systems To Be Upgraded

Necessary System Replacements will Ensure Public Safety and Meet New Federal Requirements

The Township Committee adopted an ordinance Tuesday evening to fund upgrades to the communication systems both for public safety and to replace the aging municipal telephone system.

"As stated when this ordinance was introduced, this is not for routine capital expenditures, but rather material capital purchases needed to ensure public safety, that cannot be funded as part of our annual capital plan," reiterated Mayor Frank DelCore during his comments for the ordinance adoption.

The bond ordinance comprises the following items:  FCC narrow banding mandate for the Police Radio System, Emergency 911 System Upgrade and a municipal telephone system upgrade.  The FCC mandated the narrow banding of the current VHF (Very High Frequency) radio system by January 1, 2013; however, the Township received a one year waiver extending the deadline for Township completion.

Mayor DelCore Reminds Residents to be Cautious During The Summer Heat

During these days of extreme heat it is important to stay hydrated and if possible take shelter in a cool place.  Power outages either associated with the excessive heat or by a quick moving storm sometimes occur.  Residents are reminded to reach out to their respective power companies to report an outage and not to assume that the power companies know an outage exists.

Residents are Urged to Clear Sidewalks of Branches and Debris

Township residents are reminded to ensure lands abutting or bordering sidewalks and public highways are properly trimmed and maintained.  According to Township Code 124-1, owners or tenants are required to remove all grass, weeds, brush or other impediments from those areas.  Please be mindful of the community as well as the Township Code and keep those areas clear of branches and debris.
