Twp. Communication Systems To Be Upgraded

System Replacements Necessary to Meet New Federal Requirements and To Ensure Public Safety During Emergencies

The Township Committee took action Tuesday night to upgrade communication systems both for public safety and to replace the aging municipal telephone system.

"This bond ordinance is not for routine capital expenditures, but rather material capital purchases needed to ensure public safety, that cannot be funded as part of our annual capital plan," stated Mayor Frank DelCore during his comments for the ordinance introduction.

The bond ordinance comprises the following items:  FCC narrow banding mandate for the Police Radio System, Emergency 911 System Upgrade and a municipal telephone system upgrade.  The FCC mandated the narrow banding of the current VHF (Very High Frequency) radio system by January 1, 2013; however, the Township received a one year waiver extending the deadline for Township completion.

Reminder to All Hillsborough Residents: Dog Census Underway

Mayor Frank DelCore reminds all Hillsborough residents that the current Dog Census is underway.  The State mandates that the Township conducts a dog census every two years, in order to ensure that all dogs in the Township are properly licensed.  Dog Canvassers are knocking on doors in order to conduct the State mandated census - so do not be alarmed if you see one of these individuals knocking on door in your neighborhood.
State law requires that all dogs, seven months of age or older, be licensed annually.

In its annual weekend event to introduce freshwater fishing to families
and novices across the state, the Christie Administration is holding Free Fishing Days on Saturday, June 15 and Sunday, June 16, Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bob Martin announced today.

On these two special days, anglers have the opportunity to enjoy some of the finest freshwater fishing in the Northeast without needing to purchase a license or a trout stamp. The weekend event is designed to get families hooked on a new, exciting activity, while also giving out-of state visitors a chance to sample New Jersey's waters for fishing.

"Free Fishing Days provide the perfect opportunity for families and friends to discover the simple pleasures of fishing and enjoying time together in the outdoors," Commissioner Martin said. "As the word spreads about the exceptional fishing here in New Jersey, a growing number of out-of-state anglers also come here for their free fishing opportunity every June.''
