Weather Advisory 

The first named storm of the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season, Tropical Storm Andrea, formed in the Gulf of Mexico Wednesday evening.  Significant amounts of tropical moisture are anticipated to impact the area resulting in potential river flooding over the weekend.  Residents are reminded to not attempt to drive through high water and not go around barricades.  

Township Committee Honors Hillsborough HOP   

Mayor Frank DelCore and the Township Committee presented the YMCA with a proclamation at a recent meeting declaring June 1, 2013 at the 13th Annual Hillsborough Hop 5K event day.

13th Annual Hillsborough Hop

Mayor Frank DelCore sounded the horn for start of the 13th Annual Hillsborough Hop 5K event last week.  Over 900 runners took to the race route last Saturday in the annual 5K event which ended at the Municipal Complex.  Congratulations to all the participants in this year's event. 

 

Save the Date - Independence Day Celebration

Hillsborough Fireworks - Saturday, June 29

The Hillsborough Township Fireworks are scheduled for Saturday, June 29th.  
Starting at 4:30pm SHARP will be:
*    Shuttle buses to the Auten Road School site from the Middle School and High School parking lots.
*    Starting at 5PM, the famous "Food Tent" again will offer an assorted
     menu of  refreshments for purchase from in town restaurants.
*    Blow up Amusements and face painting will be available for FREE.
*    Live DJ Music for your entertainment prior to the Fireworks Display.

Rx Drive-Thru Medicine Drop-off to Be Held June 8 in Somerset 

Somerset County Sheriff Frank J. Provenzano invites county residents to take advantage of an opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted or outdated prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications.

A special collection will be held on Saturday, June 8, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Franklin Township Sewerage Authority, located at 70 Commerce Drive, Somerset. The Rx drop-off is being held in conjunction with a scheduled Somerset County Household Hazardous Waste drop-off event.

Rx Mission Drive-in/Drop-Off is a medicine-collection program sponsored by the Somerset County Sheriff's Office, the Somerset County Solid Waste Management Division and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

Medications should be dropped off in their original packages or bottles with personal information such as name and address removed. The name of the medication should be visible. Illegal drugs, needles or sharps should not be brought to the drop-off.

Christie Administration Announces Annual Free Fishing Days to be Held on June 15-16

In its annual weekend event to introduce freshwater fishing to families
and novices across the state, the Christie Administration is holding Free Fishing Days on Saturday, June 15 and Sunday, June 16, Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bob Martin announced today.

On these two special days, anglers have the opportunity to enjoy some of the finest freshwater fishing in the Northeast without needing to purchase a license or a trout stamp. The weekend event is designed to get families hooked on a new, exciting activity, while also giving out-of state visitors a chance to sample New Jersey's waters for fishing.

"Free Fishing Days provide the perfect opportunity for families and friends to discover the simple pleasures of fishing and enjoying time together in the outdoors," Commissioner Martin said. "As the word spreads about the exceptional fishing here in New Jersey, a growing number of out-of-state anglers also come here for their free fishing opportunity every June.''

COL Stanley L. Lapidow Scholarship Fundraiser Event at Star Diner

Stop in for dinner on Thursday , June 20th anytime between 5pm-8pm and mention the fundraiser to the hostess. The Star Diner will donate 15% of your check to a $5,000 Scholarship Fund for college students, created in honor of COL Stanley L Lapidow.

The late COL Stanley L. Lapidow dedicated much of his life work to the memory of those who have served this great Country!

Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Scoping Hearing on Proposed Leidy SE Gas Pipeline Project  

On June 13, 2013 at Hillsborough Middle School the hearing about the Gas Pipeline will take place at 7pm. Transco will present an overview of the project at 6pm before the meeting starts. Public comments will be accepted through June 24, 2013.  For your convenience, there are four methods you can use to submit your comments to the Commission. In all instances, please reference the profect docket number (PF13-5-000) with your submission. The Commission encourages electronic filing of comments and has expert eFiling staff available to assist you at (202) 502-8258 or efiling@ferc.gov.

Hillsborough Township Public School's Suicide Prevention Forum will be held on June 25th

Hillsborough Township Public School's suicide prevention forum for students, parents, educators, local businesses, and community leaders on Tuesday June 25 at Hillsborough High School from 9am-12pm.

Featuring a dynamic motivational speaker, Mark Farrell, a panel discussion by Hillsborough High School Students, and Eric Marcus, author of Why Suicide? Questions and Anwers About Suicide, Suicide Prevention, and Coping with the Suicide of Someone you know.

The Basilone Bowl will take place Friday June, 28, 2013 at Bridgewater Raritan High School at John Basilone Stadium at 6pm and will feature Senior athletes from neighboring High Schools
