"Shop Hillsborough" Moves Ahead
Hillsborough Township took yet another step in Business Development at Tuesday night's Township Committee meeting by authorizing the Shop Hillsborough Campaign. This new state of the art program promotes local shopping while also allowing residents to reduce their property tax bill. The "Shop Hillsborough" initiative was first presented by Committeeman Greg Burchette, vetted by the Economic and Business Development Commission, welcomed by Hillsborough merchants and is now in the next phase. "This is a great opportunity to continue supporting local business while lessening tax payments for property owners," stated Committeeman Greg Burchette, Liaison to the Economic and Business Development Commission. The premise behind the program is encouraging local shopping in return for a rebate. All property addresses will receive a "Shop Hillsborough" card. Shoppers will earn property tax credits every time they provide the Shop Hillsborough Property Tax Reward Card at the time of purchase. The tax credits will be applied to tax bills or in the case of renters a rebate check. Individuals who work in Hillsborough, but are not property owners within the Township, can also secure a card to earn the rebate. For more information, click here...

The Overdose Prevention Act
On May 2, 2013 Governor Christie signed the Overdose Prevention Act into law. Below is a brief summary of the new law, as well as a sample of reasons why its passage was a responsible and necessary public health intervention. Why do we need overdose prevention legislation in New Jersey?Drug overdose is a major public health problem and the leading cause of accidental death both in New Jersey and nationally. Almost 6,000 people in our state have died from drug overdoses since 2004 and more than 700 died in 2009 alone. State action is necessary in order to meaningfully address thes tragic numbers. What does the overdose protection act do?The law offers protection for those who experience or witness and drug overdose and seek medical attention from arrest, charge, prosecution and conviction for obtaining, possessing, using, being under the influence of, and failing to make lawful disposition of drugs; using or possessing drug paraphernalia; and revocation of parole and probation based on these charges. Legal protection does not extend to outstanding warrants, drug sales and other non-drug related crime Click here for the full story...
