HEALTH ADVISORY - Measles Exposure Situations
Due to the presence of a confirmed case of measles and a suspet measles case both of which were in Somerset Medical Center and various other locations (see attached NJDOH FAQs below), the public was notified and people who were present at the listed location sought assistance from their physicians and the local healther departments.  Since the incubation period can be up to 21 days after the last contact, any additional cases will be known by the first week of April.  Information about measles and vaccinations can be found at www.cdc.gov/measles, as well as the information below from teh NJ Department of Health.  Although the call center is no longer in service, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact your physician or the Hillsborough Health Department at 908-369-5652.

It is a good time to remind everyone to check on their immune status for measles, as well as other communicable diseases as mumps, rubella, chickenpox, pertussis (whooping cough), hepatitis and tetanus, among others, by contacting your physician.  Also, if you are a health care provider, proof of immunity may be different than it is for other adults.  Please check this carefully.

Making sure you are immune to vaccine preventable diseases is especially true for those traveling abroad.  If you have questions about information regarding immunizations needed for travel, you can start by going to the Hillsborough website, under the Health Department and then going to the section under communicable diseases and travel information.  This is a link to the CDC (Federal Centers for Disease Control).  There is also a travel information link on the CDC site www.cdc.gov/measles.

Please note that any Hillsborough or Millstone Borough child without health insurance coverage can get free immunizations via the Child Health Clinic held twice per month at the Hillsborough Health Department by calling the Community Visiting Nurses Association at 908-725-9355.  Anyone with no health insurance or limited health insurance can contact the Federally Qualified Health Center in Plainfield at 908-753-6401.
