HEALTH ADVISORY - Measles Exposure Situations
The NJ Department of Health has been investigating two measles exposure situations - 1confirmed and one suspect case of measles in people who had been in the Somerset Medical Center recently, due to their contact with a person with measles who traveled internationally.  Measles is a highly contagious disease caused by a virus and can cause serious complications.  The virus spreads easily through the air. Many people are immune through vaccination or having had the disease in the past. At this time, it is a good idea for everyone to check their vaccination records with their physicians to make sure they are up to date.  Please make sure you are currently vaccinated or immune before traveling out of the country.

Local health departments have been reaching out to contacts of these cases and advising them to follow up with their physicians. However, the latest suspect case was present in public areas, and contacts- anyone present at any of these locations at the dates and times mentioned, are difficult to track down.  Therefore, the attached press release and frequently asked questions have been issued by the NJ Department of Health to help the public determine whether or not they were exposed to the suspect case ( they also added the locations of the confirmed case).  If you were present at any of the listed locations on the dates listed, and during the times listed, you are considered to be exposed to the suspect measles case, because the virus spreads easily through the air.

If you believe you may have been exposed to these cases at any of the dates, times, and locations listed in the press release, please follow the directions on the release. It recommends that if you were exposed in those places at those times, you contact your physician right away for advice, and there is also a CALL CENTER number to call at the end of the press release. There are also "frequently asked questions" for you to look over. If you have any questions or concerns, please be sure to call the CALL CENTER number listed. Thank you.
