Township Receives Historic Map
|
Hillsborough Township recently received a historic map thought to date pre-Civil War. The map printed on a canvass like material, attached at each end with wooden dowels, depicts the Hillsborough Township in the early 1860s. Originally hung in the patriarch of the Everett Hill Family's study, the map was presented to the Township by the three daughters - Joanne Bullock, Jennifer Smith and Janice Van der Veer on behalf of their late parents. Hillsborough Township is very thankful to have such a historic artifact donated to the Township.

Somerset Valley YMCA Strong Kids Support Campaign Kicks Off Fundraising Campaign On Its Way to $164,000 Goal For 2013
|
HILLSBOROUGH - More than 100 community members, Y members and staff who turned out for the launch of the fourth annual Strong Kids fundraising campaign heard a call to support the Somerset Valley YMCA's mission of being there for the community. "Last year, we gave out $550,000 in financial assistance for camp and child care, for people to participate in our health and wellness programs and for community programs that serve everyone from pre-schools to seniors. That same year, we raised $155,000. This year, we're here to raise more money so we can make a greater impact. We are a nonprofit charity, and if we want to continue to do more, we have to raise more," said Ed Whitney, chairman of the Somerset Valley YMCA Annual Support Campaign. "We we need your help." "We're doing amazing things here. After Super Storm Sandy, we opened our doors to the community and we provided thousands with food, showers, power or just a warm place to go and be with other people," said Paul Kieltyka, CEO. "We are here for the community. Hillsborough Mayor Frank DelCore said he sees the impact of the Y in the community every day, but especially so after the October storm. "During Sandy, the Y was a blessing for people here in the community," he said. "They are wonderful local partners."

Hillsborough Township Achieves Sustainable Jersey Bronze Certification
|
Sustainable Jersey representatives announced late last year that Hillsborough Township has met the rigorous requirements to achieve Sustainable Jersey Bronze re-certification. Hillsborough Township is one of 125 towns out of 378 registered municipalities that have attained certification. Sustainable Jersey's participating communities represent over half the state's municipalities and nearly 75 percent of its population.
"Thanks to the efforts of our Zoning Officer / Assistant Township Planner, David Kois who spearheaded the submission along with the volunteers of the Sustainable Hillsborough Steering Committee, we are extremely proud of this achievement," stated Mayor Frank DelCore.

Reminder To All Residents Regarding Snow Covered Roads
Township Ordinance 143-21 prohibits parking on snow covered roads. When snow is anticipated, use off street parking as an alternative. Vehicles will be towed at the owner's expense. This is necessary in order for the Department of Public Works to effectively plow the streets.
