DANDELION RUN AND FESTIVAL
May 17

"The Dandy" is a hilly and challenging half marathon. The course is laid out largely on dirt roads and is run at the height of dandelion season, when the fields of Derby, Morgan, and Holland are blanketed with millions of dandelions for as far as the eye can see.

A Dandelion Festival of blue grass and old country music is beginning to evolve around this event, offering a great celebration of spring in the heart of the Northeast Kingdom.

ANNUAL OPEN
STUDIO WEEKEND
May 24 & 25
Most Vermont craftspeople work in studios located in or close to their residences. These are places of production and inspiration located in downtowns as well as at the ends of dirt roads. Wherever their locations, they are exciting places to visit because they reflect the dynamic yet organized process that is used to produce the finished work of art.  A listing of open studios can be found on the Vermont Craft Council website.

SILVIO O. CONTE NATIONAL FISH AND WILDLIFE REFUGE

The Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge was established to conserve the abundance and diversity of native plants and animals and their habitats in the 7.2 million acre Connecticut River watershed in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont.  The Nulhegan Basin division of the refuge boasts a wonderful visitor center not far from Island Pond that can orientate visitors to the many recreational and educational offerings.  To learn more visit the Nulhegan Division of the Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge website.

AUNT SADIE'S

Aunt Sadie's is located a little off the beaten path in a peaceful little town called Lunenburg.  Every one of their candles is hand poured in the original barn of their historic farm house which was built in 1865. Visitors can explore the candle studio, purchase quality candles and shop in the onsite antique store.

THE OLD STONE HOUSE MUSEUM

On May 15th we will celebrate the seasonal re-opening of the Old Stone House Museum.  Located in a quiet and picturesque Northeast Kingdom village, the museum includes six buildings on fifty five acres.  Seemingly untouched by time, this hillside town is centered around a monumental stone dormitory, called Athenian Hall, built in 1834-36 by the Rev. Alexander Twilight, the nation's first African-American college graduate and state legislator.  The stone house now houses 21 rooms of exhibits focusing on 19th century life in northern Vermont.
