December Early Renewal Update
Thank you for your diligent work. By talking to your clients about our early renewal strategy, you are giving them the options they deserve going into 2014. So far, over 50% of July groups and 73% of August groups have chosen this option.

Reminder
CHCVA Sales Timeline
  • January-March early renewals released July 13-15
  • April-June early renewals released August 2-3
October Is Too Late
Small groups that choose the early December renewal are at a significant advantage heading into 2014. By locking in for another 12 months of coverage, these groups will enjoy the stability, predictability, and consistency that comes with pre-reform underwritten rates and today's benefits. No unexpected surprises. Same rates, same benefits through November 30, 2014. Thinking of waiting until October to start looking at an early December renewal option? If so, you are putting both your groups and yourself at risk.
  • Material SBC changes require a 60-day notice to employees
  • Potential fines if the group does not provide the 60-day notice to employees
As you know, Coventry Health Care of Virginia, Inc. is not accepting off-cycle December 1 Small Group business after midnight on Monday, September 16, 2013. Why? To ensure we can provide SBCs to groups for their employees well before October 1, 2013, so that groups stay in compliance and avoid unnecessary fines and penalties.

Additional FAQs
In a previous blast, we included some commonly asked questions regarding our early renewal option: Since then, we have received additional questions. If you have a question we have not yet addressed, please let us know by contacting your local Coventry representative.

When can I get a December 1 quote for new business? Now.

Can I get an Agent of Record on an early renewal group? Yes. An appointed broker can request a letter for an Agent of Record change.

When will January groups get their December off-cycle renewal? January off-cycle renewals for December 1 effective dates will be available the second week of July.

What type of increases do you expect for the January groups that move to December? Some exciting stats we can share: the entire block is only receiving a 12.5% increase. This includes age/demo changes as well as PPACA taxes. Forty percent of the membership is under a 9% renewal.

What commission will I be paid on January cases that renew for December? The commission Coventry Health Care of Virginia, Inc. will pay out on these groups is the same as our current 2013 schedule. So, you will get today's commission from December 1, 2013 - November 30, 2014. Eleven months of stability and predictability.

By what date does a January group have to decide whether to accept the December early renewal offer? No later than September 16, 2013. If the group waits past this date (or into October, for example), it is simply too late. With no SBC 60-day notification, there can be no early December 1 renewal. Our early renewal strategy has been set up to keep our groups in mind so that they stay in compliance and avoid unnecessary fines and penalties.
