 Giant Sucking Sound
 By Growltiger*

During the 1992 presidential campaign, Reform Party candidate, Ross Perot, was asked the following question (about NAFTA):  "What will you do as president to open foreign markets to fair competition for American business and to stop unfair competition here at home from foreign countries so that we can bring jobs back to the United States?" (1)

Mr. Perot did not offer a canned, scripted response his handlers has written for him (Rubio) or deliver a sermon (Cruz), bumble through a speech that was unintelligible to anyone who is not a member of the Bush Dynasty, remind the audience of his father's occupation (Kasich and Rubio) or recite his accomplishments (Kasich).

Instead, Mr. Perot explained in a businessman's terms what was happening to the American worker, only without the cursing or using a vulgarity (Donald Trump).

Mr. Perot first defined how  Washington works: "Get elected, serve, get a high paying job as a lobbyist, work on somebody's presidential campaign and make sure you got good contacts, then go back out". Sound familiar?

The first thing Mr. Perot said he'd do if elected was to  "get all these folks we've negotiated these one-way trade agreements all these years and say 'fellahs, we'll take the same deal we gave you." Sound familiar yet?

Mr. Perot  explained why it makes business sense to send jobs overseas. "It's pretty simple," he said. "If you pay $12, $14 an hour (this was in 1992, remember) and you move your factory south of the border and pay $1/hour for labor...have no health care....the single most expensive single element....no environmental controls, no pollution controls and no retirement and don't care about anything but making money, there will be a giant sucking sound going south..."

Yesterday, we heard that giant sucking sound when Carrier announced it was moving its factory to Mexico. Fourteen hundred American workers will be laid off. (2)

Mr. Perot pointed out how sending jobs overseas would eventually equalize. "When their jobs go up to $6/hour and ours go down to $6/hour, then it's leveled out. But in the meantime, you've wrecked the country."

Earlier this month, the United States signed the Trans-Pacfic Trade Partnership.
Gentle readers can read where their candidate stands or stood on this partnership at (3). From what Growltiger gleaned in a quick read, Sanders and Trump are opposed, Clinton, Bush and Kasich are in favor, and Cruz and Rubio were in favor before they were against.

The sound you're hearing now is the last gasps of a wrecked country.

Please note: The Missouri Patriot has, thus far, taken no position in support of any candidate in the ongoing Presidential Primary race. However, as a journalism enterprise, we reserve the right at any time to be both critical and supportive of a wide range of issues and of candidates running for pubic office.  Our goal is to publish a sampling of information, views and opinions that we feel are representative of arguments being offered by various campaigns. One of our objectives is to provide voters with a sampling of information and opinion that we feel is interesting and informative. A motivating factor in our activities is to focus on what we believe to be in the public interest. It goes without saying that our choice of what to publish depends on many factors such as quality of writing, clarity, appeal to our audience and various other factors. Our commentaries cannot be, and are not meant to be, all things to all people or comprehensive in coverage. (We do not sell things or advertise!)  Obviously, we are independent conservative oriented.
We publish Guest Editor's opinions because we feel their views are not only interesting and informative but deserve whatever additional distribution we can give them. That said, their views are their own and do not necessarily mirror ours.
