Editorial comment
     by Chuck MacNab

Most grass roots folks are beginning to understand what the "professional" politicians and their donors have done to America and its culture and they are now expressing their outrage by deliberately and selectively choosing non-politicians...especially those who can fund themselves (Trump) or who can raise enough grass roots money to be viable challengers (Carson, Cruz). We suspect that the rest of the field have sold out, as is traditional and expected, to special interests.

The question at this point is whether the people, the non-professional, non-political folks will be able to choose the nominee over the considerable power of the "establishment insiders" who control the Republican Party. There is no doubt that the Party insiders want someone like Kasich who they KNOW they can control. This creates a problem for them with the present polls showing that large numbers of grass roots voters do not want someone chosen by the power brokers in Washington.  Their solution to this problem is either to destroy the credibility of those whom they cannot control or to select the nominee they want while throwing a bone to the opposition in the form of a powerless VP personality acceptable to the grass roots. The power of the "establishment" and their media surrogates, such as commentators like Megyn Kelly, have been evident for all to see during the debates.

For many reasons the Republican establishment will probably overcome the challengers of the status quo and we will continue the malaise of the past 50 or so years. That will once again swing the door wide open for another Democrat election victory that will surely cement the long term goals of the radical socialists who control the Democrat Party.

Organization and unity are the keys to election victories and grass roots voters are usually not disciplined enough to overcome the barrage of highly paid political professionals who make their living keeping things "under control." Especially among conservatives, controversy is shunned and that creates a robotic, make-nice mentality that depends more on social interaction than on necessary intellectual analysis of important problems. An exception, of course, is when a newcomer suggests a course of action that is interpreted by the establishment's amateur political activists who have "put their time in" and will not tolerate any suggestion they believe is a challenge to their turf...even if it is how to stop illegal immigration or how to stop Iran from obtaining a nuclear arsenal! As is usual, those in control of the Party, the professional "establishment" politicians, their power brokers, their lobbyists and those among us who are blinded by one issue or are confused by the media will split their votes (or not vote at all) and enabling the left to give away the store, our national security and stay in power. We can always hope for something better... but in watching the political "professionals" and their media surrogates at work during the debates, we can see the circular firing squad creating yet another election defeat.

Growltiger's satirical commentary (below) shows exactly what the "expert professionals" and their insider cronies in both Parties have forced on the country. We can change it, but will we?

Expertise

What good is received wisdom if the intended receivers won't listen? Running a nation isn't a job for amateurs like George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson or B Actors like Ronald Reagan who didn't even have a post-graduate degree. Oh, no, running a nation requires expertise. Government by the people? Whoever heard of such a thing?

Government is too complicated for anybody but politicians. Without professional politicians at the helm, the country might be one big mess. We might have out-of-control deficits, rampant joblessness, a struggling economy, insecure borders, Russia annexing neighboring countries, a civil war in Syria, Libya in chaos, China hacking into government computers, North Korea threatening to nuke us, Iran shouting Death to America while building nukes and negotiating us out of a couple of billion dollars, mushrooming health care costs, a Veterans' Administration that puts veterans on waiting lists that don't exist, an IRS investigating political opponents of the party in charge, riots in some of our cities, a broken public education system, unsustainable entitlement spending, bank bailouts, trade deficits, corporate inversions, bankrupt cities. You know. Bad stuff like that.

There's a reason we have a professional governing class; Consistency. The donor class and lobbyists don't give millions of dollars to the professionals to have some amateur numbskull nobody has any influence over come along and mess up all the good stuff the pros have done. As Peggy Noonan observed in the Wall Street Journal* a few weeks back, the donor class used to be satisfied with a dinner or an ambassadorship. Now they want to help set policy. Who can blame them? After all, they didn't give millions of dollars to the winning politician just to be ignored.

*Ms. Noonan did not name names, but she reported that after one GOP candidate changed his mind about Common Core, he was contacted by one of his donors and told, in essence, to change his mind back.

When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work, because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation!
