Being On The Left Means Never Having To Say You're Sorry

In March 2006, a woman accused three members of Duke University's LaCrosse team of sexual assault at a party house setting off a firestorm which enlisted the usual Leftist triumvirate of media, college professors and the perpetually offended in a hatefest straight out of "1984". Prosecutor Mike Nifong suggested the assault might be a "hate crime" (1).
Duke University took immediate action, suspending the LaCrosse team two games. The coach was forced to resign. Duke University's president, Richard Brodhead, waded in, and cancelled the team's games for the rest of the 2006 season. A mob of 88 Duke professors took out a one-page ad against the accused. The names of Duke's Gang of 88 are listed below (2).
But the assault never happened. Nifong was disbarred, but otherwise, other than a few law suits Duke settled, the athletic director, President Brodhead and the Gang of 88 still have their jobs. So far as the Lefty triumvirate of media, college professors and perpetually offended, it was still business as usual when nine years later, "Rolling Stone" published the harrowing details of a woman being sexually assaulted at a fraternity party at the University of Virginia. Following Duke's example, UVA's president Teresa Sullivan immediately suspended all campus fraternities, sororities, and Greek organizations temporarily. She then asked the Charlottesville Police Department to investigate the crime, and urged students, faculty and alumni to engage in dialogue as to how the school should reform it's handling of sexual assault.
But like the Duke LaCrosse case, it turns out the UVA assault didn't happen either. Perhaps college president like Mr. Brodhead and Ms. Sullivan who are more aligned with their ideological partners in media and the perpetually offended than they are with their own students need to be in another line of work. Journalism perhaps?
