Who's The Enemy in the Voting Booth?!
By Pastor Dean Sharp

The other day my cousin told me that she did not like politics, did not like to vote though she would sometimes do so, and really did not care what winning candidates believed just so long as her "electric bill did not go up" as a result. In a microcosm, she seems to represent at least one of the enemies within our nation, whether they are voting or not.

Truthfully, we face several enemies in this country, many of them that count themselves as conservatives, when it comes to Election Day. They are usually closer than we think; they often appear in the mirror while we are shaving or putting on makeup. And they tend to fall into one or more of the following:

1)    They decide not to vote since the election does not include selecting a president;

2)    They go vote ill-prepared. That is to say they do not know much about any of the candidates.

3)    They go vote and decide in the booth which person seems the best to receive their vote. No prior research or vetting have they done.

4)    They go vote, but only for the names they recognize from political ads they have seen on TV or heard on the radio.

5)    Or they vote for the person making the biggest promises; tax cuts, two-chickens in every pot, or hope and change.

Thus like my cousin, many either do not vote or end up voting for an individual who really has an ideology to raise taxes according to the Washington D.C. mantra.

Be sure you go vote. We know that 100% of teacher's unions and other special interest groups will be there Tuesday to vote. Our problem is that conservatives tend not to even show up and vote in elections like this. We need to turn out and turn down these new tax initiatives.

I bring this to your attention because in just a few hours you have the opportunity to express real power for the future of this county and even this state. There are initiatives to raise taxes on the ballot to support the local schools, but it's not money they need! Throwing money at the schools for the last 60 years has not made the changes that we needed. It won't make the critical changes now. We can discuss the real changes later, but right now it is time to bring an end to the endless reaching in the trough for more money. So don't be like my cousin. Look at what the past track record has been for the candidates on the ballot. Then go pull the lever for no new taxes now. If you don't, your light bill, your tax bill, and many other bills are for certain going to go up.
