DOES THE FALL OF YEMEN SIGNAL OBAMA'S TRUE FOREIGN POLICY INTENT?

By Chuck MacNab

Since the Obama policies in Yemen have failed so miserably we wonder if they were they designed to fail or are Obama's advisors just stupid? Our proposition is this: We should actively promote the formation of a Middle East military alliance that would allow Saudi Arabia to take control of Yemen. The alliance should include Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and perhaps others. Also, Iraq should be bypassed in arming the Kurds and they should be immediately armed with modern advanced weapons! (How obvious is this and how ridiculous it is to delay doing it!)

After all, Yemen borders Saudi Arabia in the south and since those who have taken control of Yemen are allied and supported by Iran, it makes perfect sense for the Saudi's to prevent a hostile power from gaining a strategic position on their southern border. Should an alliance with Saudi Arabia and other Middle East allies come about, it would have the advantage of putting U.S. allies on the offensive (for a change) and leave little doubt among the radical Mullahs in Iran that their expansionist policies in the Middle East and elsewhere will be opposed by increasing force.

But then we have the media and their lefty friends! They will demand justification for any action that Saudi Arabia make take. For that they can refer to the example set by the U.S. in The Monroe Doctrine*! Monroe decided that, under the circumstances of the times, it was in our nation's best interest to keep European powers out of the Western Hemisphere. So he issued a proclamation that put foreign powers on notice. The policy proved effective.

JFK made good on it in Cuba*** and Ronald Reagan**** did the same in Grenada! It is clearly in the interest of Saudi Arabia AND the United States to apply a similar policy to Iran. Yemen occupies a considerable portion of the southwest part of the Saudi Arabian peninsula and, therefore, any opposing power, especially one whose government is controlled by certifiable nut cases and sits in such close proximity to the Saudi oil fields, is currently a substantial threat to the world's oil supply. The Saudi's should join in an alliance with Egypt because Egypt is fighting the radical Islamists in a territory just north of Yemen. The U.S. could, and should, deploy Special Forces, military advisors and supply modern weapons and ammunition.

Undoubtedly, this suggestion relies too much on practical common sense, especially to an Administration and a Congress that seeks only to make speeches and ignores effective solutions to serious problems. Should such a policy come about, college professors, media pundits. politicians and their sophist friends and advisors will make speeches and appear on TV programs to point out the many reasons why neither we nor our allies should do ANYTHING effective to promote U.S. interests. However, we will present it anyway!
