Weekly Update from Fishermen's Wharf Resort

ICE REPORT

We've had a good start to the winter season. Currently we've got Basic Ice Houses & Ice Cabin Rentals out on the ice as well as about 50 private houses. We are only pulling private and rentals houses to the Breakers area & Shaws Reef areas. Access to 2 mile and beyond has been closed to vehicle traffic because severe ice cracking due to the extreme cold temps. Our main access in front of Toucan's is open to vehicles with great ice all around the Breakers and Shaws areas. Remember to drive slow as this is the biggest cause of cracks opening and roads closing.

SEASONAL WINTER CUSTOMERS

If you have a private ice house with us, feel free to come up any time before 3pm to get your house pulled. We stop pulling houses at dusk. Call when you are on your way and if the guys have time they will stage your house. We pull houses on a first come, first serve basis, so check in at Toucan's when you get here and we will pull your house.

REMEMBER to always check with your local resort before venturing out on the ice. Ice conditions can change hourly and each resort knows the conditions in their area as conditions vary widely.

Bartender Dale's Weekly Chronicle of Living on the Ice

Dale Eggen a popular bartender at Toucan's as well as Launch Captain & Fishing Guide had the crazy idea 2 years ago to "LIVE" on the ice. He chronicled his adventures for us weekly in our email. Last year after just coming off a year of putting himself to the test in such an extreme way of living he wasn't too interested in giving it another try. This year he's decided to give it another try. Watch the weekly emails for fishing reports from Dale & to see what life's like to LIVE on the ice!

Dale's Report - Jan. 1st

Finally out on the ice on December 28th sitting out on Breakers in front of the resort. Only a handful of fish have been caught but with the cold weather, the bite was bound to be tough. I did however lose a big one this morning due to a snapped line. Looks like the heater isn't going to make it another winter so I'll be shopping for one of those soon. I'm looking forward to getting out in the Two Mile or Big Point area this week. Deeper water should bring a more consistent bite. Best bite I have heard has been the deeper areas around Shaws and the Point (portables).

On a funny note, a bartender who shall remain nameless got lost coming out to my shack New Years Eve which is pretty funny since you can see my house from the bar!
