PIN HIGH WITH THE PRESIDENT
Jodenne Scott
If it happens on the course, there's a rule
With wide fairways and approach shots from all angles, how likely is it for two golf balls to land right next to each other or even kiss? More likely than you'd think, says Jodenne, who had it happen three times in the span of a few rounds. So read her letter, play your own ball and know the rules. And test your knowledge -- and the golf gods -- at an EWGA or charity event this month.

CHAPTER CHAMPIONSHIP
Karen Bolin, Lily Ravencraft and Jeanne Biggerstaff check scorecards at last year's tourney.
Our big tourney needs volunteers
The Portland Chapter Championship, set for Saturday, July 16, at Quail Valley Golf Course, needs volunteers to help it run smoothly. Contact Debbie Bensching at debbensching@comcast.net if you can be a walking scorer with the scramble teams, check in players, tally scorecards or be an on-course spotter. You will get lunch and the chance to support your fellow Portland EWGA members.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
We need you!
Nominations open for your 2017 Board
Your EWGA Portlanld Chapter couldn't provide you with great golfing, education and networking opportunities if it weren't for a dedicated Board of Directors. It's time for new volunteers to step up and take charge! The out-going directors will stay on to mentor those newly elected. And you will have volunteer committees to help. Read the director responsibilities here and nominate yourself or someone else by Aug. 8.

WEEKLY LEAGUES

Karen Bolin, The Reserve League
League changes for The Reserve and AM
The Reserve League has added Friday, July 22, as a makeup date for 18 holes. Those who were rained out July 8 don't have to sign up again, but 12 additional spots are open for those who jump at this special chance by July 18.  And the Morning 9-hole League is moving back to RedTail on Wednesdays in August. Don't forget to register for August leagues by July 25. For some recent photos of League play, click here.
WEEKEND EVENTS
Mt.View No. 12 from green waaay below
Don't miss Mt.View Early Birdie deadline
Sign up by Sunday, July 10, for a great price to play Mountain View, a course with spectacular views and an unbelievable drop on No. 12. It's just a short drive away in Boring and the price includes lunch. Read details here and then click here to sign up.

First Mystery trip delivers excitement
The buzz started on the bus ride there and carried through the trip home from a day of fun and friendship at the Salem Golf Club. Organizer Terrie Marshall promises bigger things next year for even more players. Read her take on the event here.
Andrea Kielich, Emily Knupp and Keve Gabbert
Laugh or cry, Mock tourney was a test
The weather was a tease at the Mock Chapter Championship at Quail Valley, but players carried on against the constant wind and  one-hole downpour. Some even scored well enough to decide to play in next week's Chapter Championship. Organizer Ann Chapman describes the action.

CHARITY EVENTS

Breast Friends
Joy of Life July 25
Golf is a joy -- play or volunteer for charity
So many of us are touched by women's cancer, either battling it ourselves or in our circle of family, friends and EWGA. So this year, EWGA-PDX is sponsoring a hole at the 8th Annual Breast Friends Joy of Life Golf Tournament. If you can volunteer at the hole talking to players and passing out EWGA info, please contact Marilyn Morfitt at memberrecruitment@ewgapdx.com. And there's still time to sign up to play in the scramble, set for Monday, July 25, at Stone Creek Golf Club. The Early Bird deadline is Monday, July 11. You don't need a team -- just email EWGA member (and breast cancer survivor) Lynda Bader at lyndacbader@gmail.com and she will arrange one for you.

LPGA star IK Kim (center) with EWGA members Jackie Kleinstub and Carolyn Lockard-Pendergraft
IK Kim wins big on The First Tee
The First Tee of Greater Portland has a special place in the heart of EWGA-PDX -- and LPGA star IK Kim. The three-time tour winner routinely donates part of her winnings to The First Tee and other charities, and is organizing The First Tee in her homeland of South Korea. Click here to read about this remarkable young pro. And watch this video on "The Miss" and the positive attitude we all can use.
EDUCATION

Colwood Clinic shows practice is the way
The proof was in the play after EWGA's Short Game clinic at Colwood Golf Center. Read how putting, chipping and even teeing off on the Par-3 course got better for players who took the advice of the pros and practiced what they preached.

COMMUNICATIONS
Found: Golf brush
Lost and found, other website treasures
There's more to ewgapdx.com than you probably know. And all of it is designed to make your EWGA membership work for you. For instance, at the bottom of the right-hand column is a "Portland Classifieds" section. Selling something? Looking for a service? Right now, it's advertising the brush found after the Mystery Golf Bus Trip. Contact Holly Danks at newsletter@ewgapdx.com to claim the brush or have me post anything you want to buy, sell, trade or are looking for.
