April 2013 Professional Development Meeting Tuesday, April 9, 2013, Ramada Plaza, Minneapolis
Focus on Zero: Time, Waste, Variation
Presented by: Jim O'Keefe, CPIM
While we are all responsible for driving improvements in our businesses, how do we know which improvements should be tackled first or second or third? Which improvements will give us the most bang for our investment and effort? Which improvement techniques are most appropriate in a given situation?
This presentation will define three categories of improvement: increasing throughput speed, reducing unnecessary or wasteful activities, and removing unwanted variation. By using examples, you will learn how to decide when each technique is most suitable.

THE UN-COMFORT ZONE with Robert Wilson
 Craving Connection
I was walking home from school when Gary, a kid from my third grade class, fell in beside me and started chatting. I'd never spoken with him before, and I had no idea why he was talking to me, but I enjoyed it. Here was someone, who I did not know, who was interested in me - it was a new experience and it felt good. We said goodbye at his house which was about halfway to mine. He walked with me again the next day; and the day after that. On the third day, he asked me if I wanted to come into his house and play. I called my mother from his home phone and she said it was okay.
