B*ATL Happening This Week - Don't Miss It!
|

The B*ATL Organization is bringing history alive in and around the city of Atlanta's 5th Council District this year for the sesquicentennial commemoration (150th anninversary) of the Battle of Atlanta. We have been working hard to get the schedule assembled and this year will include everyone's favorite programming as well as some new partners.
Good ole' Abe Lincoln will be back. Our Civil War-to-Civil Rights tent will provide an entertaining dose of history while you wait for your van tour. A morning of storytelling has been arranged in the comfort of the East Atlanta Library. Afterward you can have your photo taken with Lincoln and Scarlett O'Hara. Oh, and don't forget about the 5K race and all of the activity on the front lines.
Follow B*ATL on Facebook to stay up to date with our schedule and any breaking news about B*ATL 2014.
Click here to buy your tickets to the walking and van tours. Register for the 5K here. Sign-up here for the B*ATL Newsletter - New From the Front.
B*ATL's mission is to preserve the urban battlefield and contribute to a sense of place for the neighborhoods that call it home by engaging residents and visitors to experience our history and the societal transformations that have occurred here. Let us know if you're interested in volunteering at http://www.batlevent.org/enlist.html.

Don't Miss EAVGT's "Went with the Wind" and "Letters Home"
|

B*ATL presents the East Atlanta Village Guerrilla Theatre (EAVGT) production of Carol Burnett's "Went with the Wind" and an original adaptation "Letters Home."
Two short shows wrapped into an hour of entertainment will take you on an emotional roller coaster. A dramatic description of the Civil War from the ones who lived it is portrayed in EAVGT's original adaptation of the book Bull Run in their performance "Letters Home." In true East Atlanta style, a comedic ending is provided by EAVGT's rambunctious rendition of the Carol Burnett parody, "Went with the Wind."
In Reynoldstown at the Lang Carson Center - 100 Flat Shoals Ave SE, 30316.
-
Thursday, July 17, 8:00-9:15 p.m.
-
Sunday, July 20, 2:00-3:15 p.m.
Tickets are $15 at the door. Kids admitted free with ticketed adults. Click here to buy your tickets.

EACA 2014 Membership Drive Results
|
Thank You EACA members and East Atlanta residents! You did it, you helped us achieve our 2014 membership drive goals. This year EACA has welcomed 150 new and returning members.
We exceeded our membership enrollment for 2013 and we feel confident that we met our goal for creating a membership base that better reflects the community that makes up the East Atlanta neighborhood.
As promised, we held a drawing for an Argosy gift card during the July EACA meeting. The winner of a $150 gift certificate was EACA member Zerina Serulle. The folks at the Argosy wanted everyone to have a second chance so they gratefully donated a second gift card that was won by another first time EACA member Jill Kahanek. Four other individuals who stayed for the entire July meeting were awarded tickets to the B*ATL event programs. Congratulations to all.
If you have any questions, please contact us at membership@eaca.net.

Surprise! Screening at Neighborhood Movie Group in August
|
August will be a surprise month in Life is Too Short to Watch Lousy Movies, the free Ormewood Park film viewing and discussion group. For the first time ever, on August 2 attendees will have no idea what they'll be seeing, except that it will be an acknowledged classic, a lot of fun, and probably pretty unusual.
The program will include a cartoon and/or short subject, clips from documentaries or other films in the same genre, and intelligent moderated discussion.
To learn more about the group, which is currently in its eighth year of screening classics, visit their website. You can sign up for the mailing list on the Contact Us page of the site. Address questions to the group's moderator, Steve Whiteman, at ClassicFilmAppreciation@gmail.com.

Friday Food for Firefighters
|

It's always a great time to deliver a meal to our local
firefighters, and it has been a little while since they have had a visit!
Providing a meal means having a cooked meal to hand over to the firefighters at Station 13 on Friday evening. The firefighters request food without pork. A full kitchen is available to them at the fire station and they can heat something as needed. Meals should be delivered between 5:00 - 5:30 p.m.
Sign up here (password is "friday") to see what dates are available for meals. You might think about sharing different parts of a meal with friends--one or two people might provide the main meal, another could provide bread or a side dish or dessert.
Please call Beth-Ann Buitekant at 404-455-8746 for information or with questions.
